Pope on Climate Change: Man Has 'Slapped Nature in the Face'

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE — Pope Francis said Thursday he is convinced that global warming is "mostly" man-made and that he hopes his upcoming encyclical on the environment will encourage negotiators at a climate change meeting in Paris to make "courageous" decisions to protect God's creation.

Francis has spoken out frequently about the "culture of waste" that has imperiled the environment and he elaborated en route to the Philippines. While there, Francis will meet with survivors of the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan, which the government has said was an example of the extreme weather conditions that global warming has wrought.

"I don't know if it (human activity) is the only cause, but mostly, in great part, it is man who has slapped nature in the face," he said. "We have in a sense taken over nature."

"I think we have exploited nature too much," Francis said, citing deforestation and monoculture. "Thanks be to God that today there are voices, so many people who are speaking out about it."

If the Pope did that, it would increase Algore’s portfolio by about .5%.

There are MANY Jesuits who are also Catholics. They don’t get the headlines, but they do exist.

Praying that Pope Francis takes a vow of silence for the rest of his life.   :-)

There have been several Popes who resigned. But BXVI was the first one in about 400 years.

Bergoglio is the real Pope.

Bergoglio can babble about all the stupid opinions he pleases about matters OTHER than the Catholic Faith—like the Global Warming Hoax. It means that he’s grossly irresponsible, and is abusing his office, but it has absolutely nothing to do with Papal Infallibility.

Papal Infallibility protects the Pope from teaching something contrary to the Catholic Faith. It has nothing to do with any stupid opinions the Pope may have about other matters.

=============================================================

Fr. Mitch Pacwa is a Jesuit who also seems to be an Orthodox Catholic, as well as a conservative American (although he may be a bit conflicted when it comes to his Jesuit brother, this Pope).    (I think Fr. Mitch listens to Rush Limbaugh quite often, based on some of the things he talks about, and when he talks about them, in his homilies and his shows on EWTN.)

Somewhere, the completely vindicated Rush Limbaugh is about to say “I told you so.”

As a protestant, I respect and love my Catholic brothers and sisters (after all we are ALL Christians). However, it is this Pope alone who is the apostate.

Yep, you put the burger in the Pope the way Cosby might have put the pills in the people. Something like that.

Nature is the one who will be slapping man in the face. And global warming has nothing to do with it. Arrogance and egotism has everything to do with it.

That’s an aporia that no one will ever be able to resolve.

The greater question is how much do people tolerate from these leaders who may or may not be appointed by God?

Dietrich Bonhoeffer brought this issue to the foreground when he took part in the attempt to assassinate Hitler. I doubt God put Hitler in power, but I don’t doubt that God allowed Man to make that horrible mistake. As Bonhoeffer argued, how much does Man then tolerate?

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not advocating any sort of violence or overthrow, but maybe conservative Catholics need to protest this leftist Pope by boycotting the Church.

He is giving Catholics a bad name.

Be assured many RC apologists have done that quite well already, adding to Rome's own accomplishments (not that i have not sometimes been a negative example).
