Russia cut gas exports to Europe by 60 per cent today, plunging the continent into an energy crisis 'within hours' as a dispute with Ukraine escalated.
This morning, gas companies in Ukraine said that Russia had completely cut off their supply.
Six countries reported a complete shut-off of Russian gas shipped via Ukraine today, in a sharp escalation of a struggle over energy that threatens Europe as winter sets in.
Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Croatia and Turkey all reported a halt in gas shipments from Russia through Ukraine.
Croatia said it was temporarily reducing supplies to industrial customers while Bulgaria said it had enough gas for only 'for a few days' and was in a 'crisis situation'.

Europe ASKED for this. Talks/meeting were takiing place years ago and pipeline supplies from Russia was the preference over the unsofisticated Americans/Canadians. LNG plants could have been built rapidly and could have eliminated Russia’s influence.
Enjoy Europe....you did it to yourselfs!
Since when has Turkey been in the EU?
I thought Ukraine was independent, oops, that’s right Obama never supported a free Ukraine and allowed Putin to march in and take over and shoot down airliners with zero retribution.
From what I read in the story, UK supplies won’t be affected much, if at all. Seems like he’s stiffing the countries that really can’t do anything about it if push came to shove. Though.....I don’t think I’d want to piss off the Turks unnecessarily.
Expanding NATO in the 90's was a mistake. Refusing to lease the Crimea to the Russians in the future was the last straw. Putin snapped and did what any great leader would do.
We my friend are the ones who went off half cocked. You put it all so well and in a nutshell, it bears repeating.
Yes, all this will isolate Russia further. And the really asinine thing is, Russia despite its past, is a natural ally candidate for the West. Were talking Caucasian people. Were talking many Christians in the populace. Were talking about whether the West or Asia provides more of a threat. Were also talking about the Islamic threat, something the West and Russia also have in common.
Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Croatia and Turkey ......now if that list included Germany or France even.....but it don’t. The oilers are trying to hurt the frackers. The Poles are fracking now. My question is why isn’t Russia fracking?
I don't think that's correct. Temperature range today in London for example is 37 to 48 degrees. That's right about normal.
Who had high hopes? The soviet union was put together by Russia and is communist with the heritage of Lenin and stalin. It is a bit better than what it was as the soviet union back in the day but not by much. I have family and friends who traveled there recently and during the cold war. There are degrees of bad.
No matter what you think you have to agree it’s never a good time to poke a bear with a stick.

Some, including a few here just don't get that.
Putin is begging for greater sanctions and the world should respond with the crippling blow this Russian midget deserves. Russians keep proving they are the stupidest people on earth.
With the massive Global Warming going on in Europe as we speak, why do they need the Gas in the first place? Aren’t the windmills providing All the energy they need?
Expect more of these ships and LNG supplies ending the brilliant one’s Wile E. Coyote move. Putin isn’t playing chess he is playing Russian roulette all by himself.
Ha ha...always with the Russian comedy! You a funny guy Pootie lickspittle!
Interestingly, southern EU countries are the weakest economically, like Greece.
Russia may suffer short term money loss from lack of gas sales, but if he manages to split the EU apart, he may consider the short-term issues a worthwhile sacrifice for long-term gain of collapsing the EU.

Europe plunged into energy crisis as Russia cuts off gas supply via Ukraine

Yep a article from 2009 ... hahahahahaha.....
It appears to have started with a Peak Oil Blog, and got picked up by several others.
Most likely because Russia could get its oil much cheaper via conventional means. If prices stay low, they’ll look very smart for that move - since they wouldn’t have wasted the investment in fracking.
For us, it still made sense with high oil prices...but if they were always $50, I doubt the work Fracking would even exist today (we’d just be importing tons more oil).
