'Bent time' tips pulsar out of view
BBC ^ | 9 January 2015 | Jonathan Webb

A pulsar, one of deep space’s spinning “lighthouses”, has faded from view because a warp in space-time tilted its beams away from Earth.

The tiny, heavy pulsar is locked in a fiercely tight orbit with another star.

The gravity between them is so extreme that it is thought to emit waves and to bend space - making the pulsar wobble.

By tracking its motion closely for five years, astronomers determined the pulsar’s weight and also quantified the gravitational disturbance.

Then, the pulsar vanished. Its wheeling beams of radio waves now pass us by, and the researchers have calculated that this can be explained by “precession”: the dying star wobbling into the dip in space-time that its own orbit created.

A weapon made from true “Dark matter”!
Could this be inverted to Anti-Darkoffee ?

Not certain.
The science is hazy.

Interesting. Since space is what’s between objects, (space is not an object) it’s difficult to see how space can be bent.

That would have been a common objection pre-relativity, when all that was known was flat space-time, and massless things were thought to always go "straight". It turns out that the presence of mass induces what could be called gravity, causing a ray of light, say, to bend as it passes nearby and the time that the ray "experiences" to warp also. That is the "bend" -- things that would otherwise go straight take a curved trajectory, including light. No ether-like medium is needed, any more than there is for the sun's gravity to tug on the earth.

Those quantum field fluctuations aren’t relevant to the effects of relativity, though.

Exactly. It can be bent only if it is made of what used to be called “The ether”.

I was just having fun with the thread. Everyone knows that...well, the more we know, the more we know we don’t know. :-)

“Feringi stole the thing and sold it.”

Thats okay, i know Daimon Tron.
He’ll give his weight in Gold-pressed Latinum not to have to tell us who he sold it to.

Um, according to the work of Haisch, Rueda, and Puthof they are precisely the filed from which inertia arises and thus gravity.
