Need software help ("Wondershare")
1/8/15

Posted on 01/08/2015 8:44:26 AM PST by pabianice

I made the mistake of trying Wondershare converter to convert .pdf to .pub. It doesn't. Instead it demands about $100 for the "authorized" version. When I try to delete it from my PC it won't delete (using the control panel) and whenever I bring-up a .pdf file it now has "Wondershare" stamped all over it.

How do I get this malware out of my PC? Thanks.

I used Malwarebytes and it seemed ok. It’s not bad.

Yes and don’t use CNET to get Malwarebytes.

True that, CNET ended up costing me mucho.

Thanks for that info I have not downloaded anything for quite awhile, but previously considered CNET a reliable source and in fact had the site bookmarked, I do trust freepers to give the most solid advice.

If the program is Maleware, it might very well screw with Internet explorer where anytime you try to access the Internet, it cuts you off.

True. It also hits Chrome.

“I made the mistake of trying Wondershare converter to convert .pdf to .pub. It doesn’t.”

For your original need to convert PDF to Epub, try Calibre. Calibre is open-source software.

Convert PDF to EPUB in calibre - YouTube

Calibre E-book Management

For converting Epub to PDF and a lot of other formats try Pandoc:

Pandoc is open-source, is for Windows/Mac/Linux, and is almost universally used in the Linux world for document format conversion.

As you have already discovered, wondershare is garbage. I had problems with them but the uninstall went well but it wasn’t the pdf thing. It was the ‘convert-powerpoint- to video’. Communicating with ‘tech support’ was worthless.

Good luck!

Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Default Programs.

In Default Programs, you can:
Show all
Set your default programs
Associate a file type with a program
Change AutoPlay settings
Set default programs for this computer

I ‘third’ that! It screwed me big time. I ended up reformatting and reinstalling — lost, not all, but much data.

I downloaded a free malware program from CNET and it had a virus attached that affected my new laptop so bad, and after trying to get rid of it myself, finally took it to a tech pro and spent $210 getting it fixed.
