Chris Christie in hot water with New York football fans after celebrating NFL playoff victory for

New Jersey governor Chris Christie has landed himself in hot water after he was caught enthusiastically celebrating a victory for the Dallas Cowboys. Christie was filmed hugging Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones and his son Stephen in a garish orange sweater after Dallas defeated Detroit Lions in a match yesterday. A native of New Jersey, Christie follows the Cowboys despite his team having a long-standing rivalry with the New York Giants in his own state as they play in the same NFL conference every year. He also cheers for the Cowboys ahead of his state's other NFL team, the New York Jets, and the Philadelphia Eagles, who are popular in south Jersey and also divisional rivals of the Cowboys.

Let the man cheer for the football team he so desires.

Saw the clip on TV this morning.

Looked like the tubby waterboy trying to give the quarterback a kiss.

I can think of a couple better, and far more important, reasons why Christie should be in trouble with voters.

you mean he’s not one of those phony politicians who say they’ve been a fan of the team where they are currently campaigning and then proceed to pronounce all the names wrong?

Hanging with J. Jones may have its own liabilities as well.

If I were him, I’d tell them I’d happily cheer for the Giants/Jets whenever one of them starts calling themselves the New Jersey Giants or the New Jersey Jets.

Texas is a big state. A lot of votes there.

Yeah, who cares? A lot of people like the same team all their lives. My one BIL grew up when the Steelers were in their hay-day. He still likes them. He's never been within a 1000 miles of Pittsburgh.

“Let the man cheer for the football team he so desires.”

I’m with you on this. Absurd that the governor because he’s an elected official in a specific geographic area (a state that doesn’t even have a football team, incidentally!) has to cheer for the ‘local’ team.

There are no local teams in the NFL. Has no one noticed? The coaches and players are interchangeable, depending on how much $ they are offered elsewhere after the initial contract expires (sometimes before).

He’s picked a football team, great. Has he decided which political team he’s going to play for?

Agree. I get enough crap from people in this area(especially my wife)as to “why can’t you just be a Ravens fan?” No thanks.

Can’t say I love CC. BUT, it didn’t look to me like he gave a damn what people thought of his support for the Cowboys, which is refreshing in itself. How does his choice of a favorite NFL team conflict with his job performance as governor?
