A rescued yellow Labrador retriever mix was popularly named Reagan by Rick Scott Facebook fans as the now Florida governor campaigned in the 2010 close election against Democrat Alex Sink. Unfortunately, Reagan's photos disappeared shortly after Scott was sworn in on January 2011, reports the Tampa Bay Times.
So what happened to Reagan the rescue pooch? Introduced as the newest addition to the Scott family back then, all sorts of dog friendly and Rick Scott photos were plastered everywhere. Of course, animal advocates love that kind of compassion; statistics reveal that 39% of Americans have at least one dog in their homes.
Scott was even praised for rescuing a dog; not like the Democrat President Obama who purchased two Portuguese water dogs from a breeder.
But when a Tampa Bay Times investigator wanted information on Reagan the Labrador who was ceremoniously named after President Ronald Reagan, officials at the Tallahassee mansion weren't barking. Although the Governor's latest communication director, Melissa Sellers stated she was much too busy with government work to comment on Reagan, the investigation pushed forward.
On Monday, the answer trickled out with Governor Scott stating:
"He was a rescue dog, and he couldn't be around anybody that was carrying anything, and so he wouldn't get better."

“(the article doesnt address which in this case)”
Disregard that portion.. re-read the article and it appears without specificity the dog was adopted.
When you adopt an adult dog your taking your chances on it having already developed bad habits, in allot of cases that’s the reason it was dumped in the first place. Trying to break an adult dog from bad habit’s is difficult and sometimes impossible unless your going to spend 24 hrs a day working with it. How a dog acts in a kennel behind wire with 30 to 40 other dog’s is not the same as when he gets to your house and starts setting up his territory. I’ve spent most of my life raising and training bird dog’s and I never start with an adult dog. I start my dogs at 10 to 12 weeks old and by 6 months they’ve learned their job and are well disciplined. What I’m saying is I’ll waste no time on a dog that somebody else let get out of control. If a person wants to adopt an adult dog your taking your chances and be ready to get rid of that dog if the problems are too great. It sounds harsh but it’s no harsher than being dumped at a rescue center because your owner didn’t care enough about you to make sure you were properly disciplined. I’m not going to blame rescue centers for misleading people about a dog since they’ve only seen it in their environment not yours and that makes a huge difference.
It is entirely possible that the dog hates black people. Many do. With all the workers and visitors at the mansion it would be near impossible to have that situation continue. It would also be impossible to accurately report that story.
I didn’t like Scott before and like him less now, that being said I did vote for him twice
Have not followed this Palin story, but I would never allow a child to stand on a dog, especially when the child is as big as Trig is now. Not saying, a youngster won’t try it, but it’s not a good idea to let them.
Yeah, I don’t know why the term “rescue dog” came to replace “shelter dog”, which is the term I use.
I'm not taking up for Scott on this issue; to be honest, I didn't really read all the way through it because to me, this is pretty weak. Many people attempt to rescue dogs and many times, it isn't a good fit. I had it happen to me; a dog I was assured was child friendly turned out to be anything but. I took him back so he could be placed with someone without children.
The bottom line is that with all the problems we face in politics, is this a legitimate reason to determine someone isn't a worthy political candidate? While Scott may have used the dog as a campaign prop, Orange Charlie used his 'wife' as one. Additionally, Scott didn't play musical chairs with his political party in an attempt to win an election.
Listed in the dictionary under ‘A’ for Adorable!
If a non-story dog story is all they can come up with to attack Walker that’s pretty lame, even more lame is the number of freepers helping promote it. Taking in an adult dog from a shelter is a noble cause but it’s also a crap shoot, if they don’t work out send them back maybe someone else has a more suitable environment.
Tampa Bay Times is hard-Leftist fishwrap. Anything can/will be spun as a hit piece.
Who do you work for ?????????
” to attack Walker “
Sorry got my Scott’s confused.
[Yellow labs are more aloof than black labs.]
Yellow labs have minds of their own. We briefly had one that took off and made her way to a grocery store. She discovered she could open the automatic door by standing on it and quickly discovered the meat counter.
The store clerks threw her out and she immediately came in through the automatic door.
We gave her away.
To make themselves feel superior.
Nothing puts this in perspective more than ACTUALLY rescuing an animal. I had occasion to do so once, for a baby kitty who was being abused. No plans to do such a thing, it just happened.
WOW, overreaction we much!
I just learned about this and asked a simple question. I figured that if anyone would know and would respond with more correct information it would be here. Your antagonistic tone is wholly misplaced here, FRiend.
What I want to know is why is this even a story? It sounds more like a personal decision the governor and his family made. Now, where are those dogs that Bo and Mo have Someone needs to check the WH kitchen.
Exactly, the dog didn’t work out for them, happens all the time. I have had dogs that wanted to attacked anyone wearing a hat or carrying a tool kit. Something happened to the dog in a previous home and the dog reacts.
Give this guy a break.
I agree with what you’re saying, and I might add.. the negative behaviors might not have even become manifest until after adoption.
Sometimes these adoptions don’t work out. Governors host many visitors, and if the dog is aggressing on the guests, it’s not going to be a good fit. It’d be better off as a one-person dog somewhere on some acreage.
Do Portuguese water dogs taste better than yellow labs?
