Investigation after 328-foot turbine buckles at wind farm in County Tyrone despite only light winds

A 328-foot tall wind turbine worth more than £2 million pounds has buckled and collapsed on a mountainside in Northern Ireland.

Unconfirmed reports suggested the blades of the turbine had spun out of control - despite only light wind speeds - before the structure came crashing to the ground on Friday.

Locals claimed the sound of the turbine hitting the mountain could be heard up to seven miles away from the Screggagh wind farm, near Fintona in County Tyrone.

My ancestors left County Tyrone over 275 years ago.

Don't know when my Irish ancestors left County Clare, Ireland. Probably during the Potato Famine.

My Scottish ancestors left their homes in Dumfrieshire much earlier, due to the Clearances.

Musta been the sound the turbine made when it came crashing down!

To: I want the USA back

The morally superior environmentalists demonize clearcuttings as horrible hideous blights upon the landscape... (in places noone can see ‘cept from a greenie’s private petroleum-guzzling jet)

Yet these ubiquitous bird blenders deface and debase the normal landscape of mere mortals driving to work in evil petroleum-guzzling SUVs, and they bludgeon birds to a pulp as well.

Some animals are more equal than others. If a bird blender is good enough in this life for commuters and birds, it will be good enough for the greenies in the next life. Something about the rich man and Lazarus..

Maybe they will all reincarnate as bald eagles flying into a wind farm.

There needs to be a new regulation requiring a 10 year environmental “impact” study prior to construction permitting to assess possible damage to critters living within the “fall” line of these windmills.

I don't think 10 years is near enough to assess the potential damage to the environment and the animal population. 25-50 years would seem more in line with the impact these dangerous machines could have on our world.

I'm sure some kind of worm or beetle or ant or other insect, maybe even a small rodent, could have been "murdered" by this fallen wind turbine. Where is PETA when you need them?

Where is the EPA or any kind of true environmental body when you need them... IWTs are a total disaster when it comes to the environment.

I’ve seen the footage of the IWT failure in your post 25 many times...but what is the story with the second one that just toppled over? I don’t think that I’ve seen that one before....Do you have a link with what the story is for that one?

For the record, all of these tapes other than the original 3M and one made by Gorilla are crap. A few years ago I had to conduct tests on all of them and that’s what was found.

Of course, if I wanted to be serious, I would have said EPA too. But since I was being sarcastic, PETA fit just fine.
