They have decided to end their marriage after nearly 20 years.

On Sunday Chris Rock's wife Malaak Compton announced she was leaving the 49-year-old comedian.

'After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways,' she said in a statement.

The founder of the nonprofit styleWorks added, 'Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties.

'While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority.

'It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives.'

The couple were plagued by a report in 2010 that he had fathered a child out of wedlock.

In 2007 there were reports that they were on the rocks, but Chris defended they were 'happy.'

'The best part is just having a partner,' the Madagascar star said in 2007. 'There is no real worst part. I'm not going to say there's a worst part. I mean, I'm a comedian – comedians like to work alone. So maybe I'm not the ideal guy to be married to, in that sense.'

Chris also said that white people should “own” their history of racism and that it is unfair to inherit money because “you didn’t work for it!”.

Funny how there never are any marches for all of the unarmed dogs shot by police officers every year.

In all fairness, a celebrity marriage is probably 20X less likely to last than a non-celebrity one—for many reasons. The most obvious is people throwing themselves at the celebrity partner.

...the other reason is that a lot of celebrities are self-absorbed a-holes.

Yeah, I’m sure people have written books about this. A lot of celebrity marriages are about the $$, fame, and status. Both partners should realize what they are getting into. If not, shame on them.
