San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh has reportedly accepted Michigan's offer to return to his alma mater and become the Wolverines' next head coach, according to CSNBayArea.com, which reports that Harbaugh will be announced at a press conference in Ann Arbor on Tuesday morning. Jason Cole of Bleacher Report and writer John U. Bacon, author of several books about Michigan football, also reported on Saturday that Harbaugh was expected to accept the Michigan job.

Michigan will be thrilled to have him as their head coach for around 3-4 years. After that, they won’t be able to wait to get rid of him.
He’s definitely a “Meatchicken Man”.
1. The pay and team control was better than what most NFL teams--specifically the Raiders, Jets and Bears--were willing to offer.
2. NFL teams were not willing part with draft picks to get Harbaugh.
In short, Harbaugh likely quietly announced his resignation earlier this week and got permission from the 49ers to end the last year of his contract, and the 49ers allowed it on the proviso that he cannot go to another NFL team. As such, Michigan became the #1 choice for his next job.
Sorry Michigan but that man is simply not right. The worst part of your nightmare is yet to come.
Leaving a 5 million per year job for an 8 million per year job. Michigan gambling a lot of money on one man.
3 consecutive NFC Championship and 1 Super Bowl appearances and he’s still not good enough for the Whiners?
I agree. And I'm a dedicated, leather-lunged, blue-blooded Seahawks 12th man. Harbaugh's record speaks for itself. He is a great coach.
Well, at least we have that idiot punk Kaepernik to keep our loathing of the red and gold alive.
Go Blue!
Agee, as a Niner fan I can honestly say: Michigan can have him.
Not at all. The man is an asshole and no number of victories will change that fact.
Remember when Michigan could consistently beat SEC teams? Me neither.
I can’t stand U. of Michigan, but this is a very good fit, and will revitalize the Wolverines.
LOL!
Nice to see Jim Harbaugh ‘going home’. For only $8,000,000.00 a year. I wonder how much that sum added to the university’s budget could lower the tuition rate.
For the life of me, I cannot see just how professional football and basketball teams enhance the ‘college experience’.
Students, for the most part cannot afford to go the games. Athletes are used up for a less than 10% chance of a NFL contract. For no compensation. Unless you call usually worthless degrees compensation.
How soon they forget. (both sides...)
“Michigan is a good school, and I got a good education there,” he said, “but the athletic department has ways to get borderline guys in and, when they’re in, they steer them to courses in sports communications.” Jim H
I pray this disrupts the 49’s team cohesion. It’s the Cardinals’ only hope.
Harbaugh is a top five coach in college and the NFL combined. This will be a coup for the Wolverines if true. There was never any mention of problems with Harbaugh until one year ago. He was great at Stanford and turned around an irrelevant 49ers in a single season. He saved Alex Smiths career, made Kaopernick something out of nothing, and developed Andrew Luck. I’d take him on my team in a heartbeat. The arrogant 49ers brass started this campaign a year ago. They’ll return to irrelevancy once again unless they pull a rabbit out of a hat with their next coaching hire.
For the big time programs like Michigan the athletic department is actually a profit center.
