I’ve often thought that when you’re on those toll roads, which give you a ticket with the time stamp that they would come after you if you got to the next toll “too fast”...sounds like we’re heading that way..

Thank God I don’t live in Houston, which is the only city in Texas (to my knowledge) that issues EZ-passes. (They are accepted as payment on the toll roads in Dallas, but nothing more.)

For some reason, it is not really all that difficult for me to keep my car within a few miles of the speed limit. Maybe that is odd. After all, it has a turbo charger.

The Fast Trax here in San Diego tracks speed, but it’s way off. Had me going 85 when my actual was closer to 65 mph.
To: BenLurkin
A bit misleading. The speed tracked is through the toll gates and NOT on the roads themselves.
I’ve gotten one of the letters myself warning me about speed through the gate. Never one for my speed from one toll gate to the next.

Well Texas 130 has a speed limit of 85. You would have to be going pretty fast to get a citation.

I remember joking about this when they first came out, and my only surprise is it’s taken this long. They can time every car, so maybe this will morph into a “pay as you go” deal, where there are no speed limits per se, just a higher toll the faster you drive.

they’re also doing toll-by-plate using nothing more then a camera
pretty soon, you’ll have tolls on as many roads as they can... while also issuing tickets for all sorts of offenses.

This story is about people speeding through the tollbooths, not between the tollbooths. Nobody is using the elapsed time between the time you pass two EZPass no monitors to write tickets.

Here in the state of Washington many of us have the EZ pass to get across the bridge into Seattle. I think it works for some HOV lanes on some roads.
BUT - they HAVE been using the sensors all over to track time of vehicles within Seattle and other suburbs. To track traffic flow for planning purposes, perhaps timing of lights, etc. I doubt they could use them within town with so much traffic and lights to issue speeding tickets. But odd to think that my trip through my suburb running errands is being tracked. And if they wanted to - go over all of the security and stop light videos.

This is why in 30+ years of driving I've never exceeded the speed limit on toll roads....indeed, pausing for a snack or PB at least once during any particular stretch...nothing keeps you straight like potentially having physical evidence of a violation in the form of a time-stamped toll ticket...never wanted to have an attendant ask me "how did you get here so quick?"

The EZTag used in Houston is completely different than EZPass. Only the names sound similar.
All of the toll tags in Texas, no matter how branded, are technically comparable and are interoperable.

I don't know if you're serious or not. I don't see anything wrong with going the prevailing speed.
