Mark the date, David Letterman fans: May 20 will be his final edition of "The Late Show."
CBS announced the finale date on Wednesday, a full five months before it will take place. Letterman announced his retirement plans back in April, but did not specify a date.
"It's going to be tough to say goodbye, but I know we will all cherish the shows leading up to Dave's final broadcast in May," CBS CEO Les Moonves said in a statement.
The network is planning a triumphant departure for the acclaimed late-night host, who will be succeeded by Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report."
As previously announced, Colbert will sign off from that show on December 18.

From a mildly-funny leftist dope to a really unfunny leftist dope (if his Comedy Central show is any guide).

Letterman was funny and cutting edge when I was in college. In the early 80’s. Now he’s just a grumpy old man.

Letterman going to live in the Old Perverts Home now

With a MUCH younger audience, and just in time to run his schtick for Democrats for the 2016 campaigns.

The late night host crowd is now weaker than ever. Colbert never impressed me, John Stewart is a loser, the weekend report guy from SNL I always wondered how he kept the job.
Nothing like Carson out there.

Stewart is a terrible, sniveling liar but he isn't a loser in the industry. He wins Emmys and awards. Many Americans get all their news from him so he is as influential as Obama. He is actually quite dangerous. He proves Alinsky right every single day. Mocking works. People are more scared of being mocked than losing their money or their liberty.

Letterman was funny and cutting edge when I was in college. In the early 80s. Now hes just a grumpy old man. I agree - and I even watched the debut week of his daytime show. He was funnier before he went to the nighttime show.

I stopped watching Letterman when he went political. My problem with him before that was he was very inconsistent. One night he would be funny has hell and then the next night he would stink it up.

Yeah, if Dave would have just walked away around 1992 we’d all think much more fondly of him now.
