WASHINGTON The United States transferred six detainees from the Guantánamo Bay prison to Uruguay this weekend, the Defense Department announced early Sunday. It was the largest single group of inmates to depart the wartime prison in Cuba since 2009, and the first detainees to be resettled in South America. The transfer included a Syrian man who has been on a prolonged hunger strike to protest his indefinite detention without trial, and who has brought a high-profile lawsuit to challenge the militarys procedures for force-feeding him. His release may moot most of that case, although a dispute over whether videotapes of the procedure must be disclosed to the public is expected to continue.

The current president Mujica, was a member of Tupamaros and was a bad azz.
China got there first to Chile....Chile made a deal with China to mine in Chile and huge portions of land. You know how slick the Chinese are and they will get a stronghold there....so who knows.
Chile has been the recipient of a lot of Amerians...so I guess we shall see how they end up.
And if you are a more formal person in dress you will be happy. Chileans are not so casual as Americans.
I am surmising you mean marijuana? You dirty dog.
It all depends on the prisoners. There exist some who are only there as a result of bad circumstances. Take for instance the Eighurs. They ended up there, but pose no threat whatsoever. They don’t want to harm anyone. China doesn’t want them and if sent back to China, they will be immediately executed. They have no home to go back to. They are men without a country.
One of the reasons they loved me.
I dress in shorts everywhere. Dinner, Ballet, etc I don’t care. But, that’s typical California.
Chile is a bit more of a place somewhere between California and New England.
I dress in sport coat and tie for dinner in Santiago but, you can forget me doing that at Valle Nevado, an smokin ski resort about an hour away.
Chile is just great.
Their telecom infrastructure is nearly as modern as the U.S. as is their financial systems.
Luv the place and if I had to split from Murica, I’d want to land in Chile and Not Mexico and probably any other place in the world.
Chile is just too much like being home.
It’s much the Spaniards felt when landing, exploring and settling California.
Seriously bad. Plus, don’t forget that Uruguay is not far from the notorious Triple Border region, which is nothing but a homeland for terrorists and terrorist operations, meaning Marxist groups (the IRA used to hang out there) and jihadis. How thoughtful of Obama to locate these people there.
The tri-border region is pretty much controlled by Hezbollah now. These guys will find their way there.
Then my advice to you is to move, because we always feel most comfortable, where we are supposed to be. And be sure to write in case I change me mind and want to get the $##l our of here....lol
I’m sure the women will love you, and if you aren’t married...now is the time...before some lady ties you down.
If you are worried about your Spanish, there is always Rosetta Stone, the military uses it and I understand a few weeks can make a huge difference.
OH...and about the late dinners at 8, or 9 pm...the secret is adjusting your lunch time and eating a late breakfast. If retired you can do four smaller meals a day. Get up and eat something light with coffee like toast or muffin.... if you are early 5 am or 6 am riser. Again something about 10 am, protein and substantial....then eat lunch 2-3 pm, then that late dinner will seem normal. Follow your heart.
LOL
Rather act like a nervous first date and eat a small bite or two before contriving reasons why we should return to my house for the main meal...
LOL
Not worried about my Spanish. Snobs everywhere but, Mexico fancy themselves experts of their language.
Far as ladies. Made it 51, never married, probably won’t.
Good looking, witty, high intellect and no lack of ego.
What more could they want.
While I joke about retiring to Chile, truth is, I don’t ever think about actual retiring.
More like goofing off, interspersed witb something called work.
No, I was referring to the civil war or civilian revolutionaries. But hey, I guess the weed factors in too?
“I have studied so many places...”
Is there a place you favor at this particular time?
At one time it was Panama, but no more. I am still looking around....if it has to be an English speaking nation for you, then it depends on how far from your family would you be comfortable? The decision to leave America is different for everyone, and the ties to America with need to return for visits get more expensive the further away.
Men seem to prefer, if single, the Asian countries like Philippines (English) or Indonesia, etc.
Women prefer places in South America or Ireland.
What I would prefer may not be God’s will for you, because we are all safest where God leads us.
lol...I guess I am just not well informed on those terms. No meanness intended in calling you a dirty dog...
So sir, you admit to being the eternal flirt for life. Interesting. ‘Rounders’is what we called you’all when I was young...lol
Thank you.
We have no plans of leaving...yet. But times may change, and it pays to keep one’s eyes open. Thank you, again.
Absolutely.
Tried the relationship thing. Probably not something I want get into. At least very deeply.
Yes it does pay to watch....here is an expat blog from Chile. And read blogs from all places you might want to go.
