I have ridden that very train before a couple of times. Well, one time it broke down and we ended up on a bus. Sounds like something off the the all time classic funny movie "Planes, Trains, and automobiles".

I’ll bet Amtrak riders are not allowed to carry concealed while traveling, either.

Using only the facts available at this time? That’s no fun.
Baseless speculation is so much more interesting!

Niles, Michigan is just a short distance north of the Northern Indiana border. The AMTRAK train involved was likely either The Capitol Limited from Washington, D.C. or the Lake Shore Limited out of Penn Station in New York City.
Usually very full trains.

Neither the Capitol Limited nor the Lake Shore Limited duck into Michigan. This was a Wolverine train out of Chicago to Detroit-Pontiac.

This was on The Blue Water train to Port Huron.
I bet that’s a money maker - Port Huron, Flint, Lansing, Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, before going to Chicago.

The story tells us almost nothing, as is typical. Was the train in motion? Did the suspect just board from a station while the train was stopped? Was he a paying passenger? Were police on the train already or did they have to be called?
I once considered traveling Amtrak, but when I learn that they disarm CHL holders, I backed off. at least airplanes supposedly have Air Marshals.

Good grief, I travelled that train dozens of times when I was going to college in Kazoo and would come back to Buchanan for a weekend.

More here but not a lot.
Police: 4 people stabbed on Amtrak train; 1 in custody
Suspect is Michael Darnell Williams, 44. 1 female and two male passengers and the conductor were attacked. Also praise for the police.
Tyler Vandermolen, who was sitting ten rows from where the stabbing occurred, says, "You see the police getting a lot for bad press with the stuff going on around the country these days, but you got to give it up for these guys they were there in under... within seconds of this happening it was pretty incredible that they may have saved some lives today."

Since it was only a knife liberals will not care. If he was shot we would never hear the end of it.

Ah pooh! Now will follow the endless calls for immediate knife control legislation. sheesh!Worse... expect a ramped up TSA presence along with their bag x-ray scanners and "hands up don't shoot" full body scanners at every single train station in the country. Be sure to arrive at the commuter rail station 90 minutes early to get through the security checkpoint.

My sister takes Amtrak a lot and I asked her if they inspect the luggage and she said they don’t. She travels from UT to Chicago.
