Think of it as the return of the Phantom.
Fly boys of a certain age perked up with reports Thursday that F-4 Phantom IIs belonging to the Iranian air force or whats left of it have attacked targets belonging to the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) in recent days.

“All of it stemmed from growing up around muscle cars. The F-4 and muscle cars were kissin’ cousins in that theory of big engines and bricks.”
Huh. Very apt description and reasoning - as a 54 year-old civilian, I have always liked the F-4. Becoming aware of these things during the Vietnam era is also a factor I am sure.
Aircraft in picture does not seem to be on AB.
It was just a shot of an F4 going vertical. I asked an aviation friend of mine if she had a picture of one and she sent that and I added it to the post.
Military planes interest me, but I am not way into it. So I pose to you guys about the F4....I’ve seen all the comments about flying brick and all that....what tactical advantage does it bring? If it supposedly occasionally beat F-15s, why did that happen? With its apparent disadvantages, why did we use it and what was it built for to accomplish?
This thread has brought back many happy memories, and a few scary ones!
