Or manipulative. Pretty people, great music--My Glitter-Over-Substance meters start going off when a movie is trying to tell me I should like characters without giving me some good reasons.
Asimov did not invent the notion of a galactic empire. The Star Bores universe is a crazy quilt amalgam of all sorts of borrowings, and some of the stitching is sloppy.
