Unbelievable. Good dog. Too bad the dog couldn't get to the SOB and give him a few chews before dying.
And no mention of who this SOB might be. Shooting through a car of children. Are they going to track down this bastard(sorry, MY rage demands some language)?

One of my best friends as a child was Richard, my neighbors old German Shepard.

Great story, great dog... but I don’t think the dog really knew it was jumping in front of bullets and shielding the family with its body.

Yeah, I often wonder about the almost mythological powers people give to dogs in these news reports.

The dog took a bullet and died, likely sparing a child, whether he knew it or not. There are many accidental heroes. Let people have their moment of seeing something transcendent and good in this, if for nothing else to help those traumatized kids who had the windows shot out of the vehicle in which they were traveling and lost their dog because of it. They no doubt loved that dog.

I would agree, especially if he was crammed into a car with them at the time.
My husband told me about this so I posted, but he seemed to think the dog jumped out of the car and took bullets. Even that would be questionable about intentions, but I think moreso if trying to move inside a car.
Anyway, I thought it was a sad story, as well as an agitating story. I hate that SOB for shooting up children, needs to be caught and strung up! Hope it gets more attention so the shooter might indeed get his due.

Dog die a hero.
No truer friend gave up his life for his family.
May that noble dog rest in peace and have a blessed life on the Rainbow Bridge!

I think we watched too many episodes of Lassie.
"Bark, bark."
"What, Lassie?" Gramps is hurt?"
"Bark, bark, bark."
"He twisted his ankle down by the pond?"
"Bark, bark."
"OK. I'll follow you."

I agree but would like to add a few steps — stretching on the rack;
evisceration and burning of entrails;
think medieval England . . .
