Friends, it's Sunday night again and time to relax. Warm up the tubes for another 4 hours of classic radio Americana.
Info *tonight's show will be available at the "Info" link starting tomorrow.
Official OTR Blog of "The Big Broadcast" thread.
Let's all remember that Thanksgiving is a day of national prayer to God of the Bible, established by George Washington; which you can read here: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/GW/gw004.html
We have a Thanksgiving show tonight, and outside of that theme this is a weaker lineup in my option. Let's hope for laughs with the strongest show of the night, Jack Benny from ‘45...Challenge of the Yukon is a fun change but usually one dimensional...Father Knows Best is not worthy of the 10pm hour, maybe this is a great one???...ending with Sam Spade is anti climatic.
But, it'll still be a good night of OTR...and there is a Thanksgiving show on Thursday. Should we have a thread on it or is everyone busy?
Then they switched to Sam Spade, which I find unlistenable, because of its flippancy. I guess that passed for humor in the late '40s.
It looks like Ed decided to go back a year and continue with some more Johnny Dollar serials, and the Gunsmoke looks to be an interesting time, edited to remove profanites! :-)

Sam Spade and Effie are the worst at it.
Same for comedians. Some can pull it off, some can't. Jack Benny's shows are still fresh and funny. Bob Hope's are cringeworthy.
Editing the profanities eh??? This should be interesting.
How you doing?
Hi, Vision! We’re doing fine. Just got an inch and a quarter of rain this morning from a system that came off the Gulf. It’s nice here now, not too cool.
We’re going to do a little fire in the fire “bowl” thingy and chicken on the grill, laundry, too, of course.
A friend gave us a big quart bag of frozen white trout fillets, little bitty ones, caught here in the Sound, and I’m trying to figure out what to do with them. Frying them would only make them shrink up to nuggets. I don’t know, maybe cover them with lemon juice and bake them...
What about you? Any Food Wishes? I watched his flat bread video today, just flour(s), salt and water.
PS: We talked about that Gunsmoke, and Keith said surely the uncensored version is out there somewhere. I would love to hear THAT! :-)
I need to listen more to Hope. Red Skelton is unlistenable.
Jack Benny's stuff is the gold standard, but he did get funnier with age. The shows from the ‘30’s are hit and miss. Phil Harris is the funniest of OTR IMO. They're treasures which will stand up forever.
Yea, I did FW creamy mushroom pasta. Good, it can probably be improved by adding more sherry and using mushroom base/stock instead of chicken, will try it again at some point.
What are you doing this week? Taking time off?
I’m working this week. We haven’t thought much about Thanksgiving. We’ll probably visit Keith’s Mom.
Are you going to see your Dad?
The fish was fresh frozen in water right after the guy caught it, so it’s fresh, but it’s just little pieces. I’ll figure something out.
We missed Ed’s intro. Did he say why he was going back to the Johnny Dollar serials?
If they are good quality, I’d season, dust with flour, pan saute for a crust (finish in the oven if you need to) and then serve with a beurre blanc.
You’re off for the big day?
I’m staying in the DC area this year. Looking forward to local festivities and a mini stay vacation.
I think that fish idea sounds excellent! That’s it!
Dragnet. We love a happy ending—the gas chamber for the dirt bags.
