A WWF legend who once wrestled headliners like Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant is now a double amputee living in poverty in rural Mississippi. Now all James Harris, who rose to fame as Kamala the Ugandan Giant in the 1980s, has left from those days as a pro wrestler on the national stage are his memories. He used to wrestle in Tulsa when I was a kid. We’d go to the matches all the time. He was a “bad guy.” My little brother was terrified when he entered the arena. I was just angry.
Loved his act, I’m sure white liberals repeatedly told him how to act Black.

May God bless his efforts.
I had no idea he’s from Senatobia, MS. I live in the adjacent county to the north. I hate what has happened to him.
We all know that wrestling is fake, but at his size Kamala was a heck of an athlete. Very quick, agile. Would not expect someone of that size, particularly with the belly he had, to be able to move so easily on his feet. First saw him way back on TV when he was on the Von Erich promotion in Dallas at the Sportatorium.
Pro wrestling is a tough business. Punches are not real obviously, but those guys put their bodies through a lot over their career. Hard way to make a living.
the link shows a pic of him with Classy Freddy Blassie - another wrestling great
Sad story. About ten years ago, I met him at a “Meet And Greet” signing before a wrestling show. He was very nice.
Eat ‘em up yum yum.
