As Chris Rock once surmised, Krispy Kreme is basically crack. The doughnuts, whether original glazed or stuffed with raspberry jelly, have had us hooked for 74 years, and we’re not looking to quit anytime soon. To better understand our dependency, we decided to look into the history of this doughnut empire. It involves pizza. And rap beef.

When I was a little guy, we lived on Pace Street in Raleigh. Starting at about age three, I used to make the trip over to Person Street by myself. They were suckers for a small child with a doughnut jones. Some habits you just can’t shake. I ate six of them yesterday and plan on finishing the box today.

If you are ever driving past a KK and the "HOT" neon sign in the window is on, do yourself a favor and stop in for two glazed and coffee.

MMMmmm! Heaven for your tongue.

I love doughnuts but not the calories. That means mostly I must say “no thanks.”

Best bang for calorie counters lies in candy, not pastries.

I thought this thread would be about Chris Christie...

Dang, now I have donut craving.
Krispy Kreme used to have tart donut which is a glazed donut topped with whipped cream & a cherry. I put pounds on remembering the delicious taste of it.

I was visiting family in est TExas awhile back. And there, every wide spot in the road has a doughnut shop run by aVietnamese family.

And every one of them makes 'em better than Krispy Kreme.

It’s been decades since you could by a good doughnut around here — dunkin donuts drove the mom and pops out of business, then sold out to indians who sell stale, shortening soaked crap.

13. The Brits made a $1,685 doughnut

Featuring Dom Perignon vintage 2002 Champagne jelly with raspberry and Chateau d’Yquem creme, a 23-carat gold-dusted Belgian white chocolate lotus flower, and edible diamonds, this pricey pastry lived at a London department store for a brief time this year. It now resides in Scrooge McDuck’s trashcan, along with a half-eaten, $3,000 croissant.

*****************

That’s nothing. Entenmanns (has a display at the end of the aisle) makes a $219,000 Duke of Windsor wedding cake. or maybe it’s $2.19. Can’t remember.

AH! - I had 2 on MON - if you buy 6 from Speedway - the 7th is free using your rewards card!

One here and there...won’t do you in...you gotta savor the moment...

I watched a TV historical program - said the guy got the recipe from a card game he won - the guy that lost said it was a family secret....he opened up his first store and eventually had to install a window where people could walk up and to pick them up while going to work...

If you are ever in Chicago - there a little outdated green truck that sits on Clarke Street one block south of Madison - that lady makes homemade traditional (heavy) donuts for $2 - worth it!

Donuts give me heartburn. Taste good but it’s not worth the pain later...

2???

Can’t stop with just 2 hot ones. LOL!

My bride is from Duncan Doughnuts land in the northeast...they have DD’s like Starbucks...at least one on every corner.

First time she came here I fed her a hot KK...we ate the entire dozen right there.

Big thumbs up!: What a bit of heaven to melt on your tongue.

30 years ago, one of my college jobs was making and delivering donuts. I made 700 dozen donuts a day. Still cannot eat a donut.

I don’t get it. A couple of KK stores opened up here in Connecticut and closed within a year. Theres nothing to these doughnuts, they’re mostly air with a sugar coating. Now, Dunkin’ Donuts are substantial and come with way better coffee.

To each his own but I am seriously underwhelmed by KK.

No donut shops here, but sometimes find a bag of iced Homer Simpson specials marked down—it’s hard to stop @ 3, though.

When I was younger, a half dozen was the order, but I'm older now, still running against the wind, and two is my self imposed limit. YMMV

Glad they don’t make cinnamon cake doughnuts. I can resist glazed but not cinnamon cake.

Nearly a decade ago, I visited a friend in Florence, SC, where I once lived, and one of my gal pals and I went to the local Krispy Kreme where you can watch the donuts being made. And, of course, the donuts were great. The church to which I belonged always served KK donut holes after Mass. That “tradition” survived for quite some time. Yes, it served ONLY the donut holes.
