I was really interested in a girl in college until I found out she was a fan of Rothko.

Rothko's "Untitled," a blue and purple oil painting from 1970 sold for $39.9 million. It looks like it was made with painter's tape.

Hedge fund managers, George Soros, Arab sheiks, Mark What’s his-berg, Bill Gates, Carlos Slim. In answer to the commenter at the original article, who asked the identity of the people who have been spending so much money on “art” the past three years. To these kinds of people, millions of dollars mean what hundreds of dollars mean to you and I.

It may seem trivial, but it's inspired countless destructive immitations:
The great art is just a math symbol written sideways, which is as silly as marriage "equality" setting two things equal when they are not equal.

Priced for masochists. I have seen Rothko's work in person and and when it comes to 2-dimensional art, I'm quite open minded. But I have never understood why anyone would pay so much for his crap, and never will.
It's worth noting that Rothko committed suicide. I think his "art" reflects its general usefulness to mankind. It's hopeless.
