Ferguson, Missouri (CNN) -- Lately, Dan McMullen has been bringing an extra gun to his office in Ferguson, Missouri.
McMullen runs Solo Insurance on West Florissant close to where looting and vandalism briefly broke out in early August after a police officer shot to death teenager Michael Brown.
"I bring an extra gun now only because it has a bigger magazine," McMullen says. He began carrying it after tensions increased in the area following the shooting. He says he would never use it to protect his business, but he would use it to save his life.
"So maybe I get trapped here or something and have to have a John Wayne shootout," McMullen says before interrupting himself, smiling. "That's the silly part about it: Is that going to happen? Not a chance. But I guess, could it? I'm the only white person here."

Touche`. You are correct, sir.
It’s even worse when they let political correctness overrule the law.
yes indeed it is.
“where looting and vandalism briefly broke out in early August”
Briefly? CNN makes it sound as though it was about five minutes or so. No biggy.
yep, I would like for the Commie News Network to explain to QT why their store and station was burned down.
CNN is a damn joke being played on America.
If your ever in a hotel lobby and CNN is on, just go change the channel. Nobody will say anything.
Remember when white folks rioted after the O.J. verdict?

Yes, it was so horrible. All those evil white folks rioting, killing, burning, looting and destroying all those American cities. Oh wait.....
“The same reason I leave my front door unlocked.
Local constabulary complained that I was ‘baiting’.”
LOL. I rented the upstairs from a retired cop. It was near Newark. He’d leave the house empty with the door open, low lights, tv or music on. His neighbors had doors and windows with bars. He said they’d been robbed 3 times and that most people don’t want to chance being confronted. Retired cop in Jersey...I figured he knew what he was talking about.
It isn’t. It is a bunch of grandstanding by a bunch of idiots that are sick and tired of Obama.
They have no place to vent their anger so Ferguson/St. Louis gets it.
There are certain mentalities that NEVER admit being stupid or making a mistake. This is where they decided to make a complete ass of themselves. If the good people of St. Louis don’t know how to protect themselves, they will soon.
A dear friend of mine lives 10 minutes from there. I have been very concerned about her.
Ah, good point.
You are driving and a tire blows out. It causes your car to swerve and you hit a tree. You are unconscious and bleeding. Paramedics arrive and remove you from the vehicle and put you on a stretcher and you are still unconscious. Are you still the first responder?
Did you have a sign on it that said “THIS DOOR IS UNLOCKED! COME ON IN!”
If you did not, the police have nothing to complain about.
I remember back in 1968 during the anti-gun hysteria following the death of Bobby Kennedy, when people were placing signs in their windows that read “THIS HOUSE IS UNARMED!”
That didn’t last long.
shoot out at the OK Ferguson corral
There was a piece in The Onion a few years back. It was about how Dick Cheney would describe white people who were lotting- They were “foraging” for food and supplies, not looting. It was funny.
The first responder is the person who called the “first responders”, or the trees are all equipped with accelerometers ready to send crash data to them.
Chew on this one, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
Your analogy works just like the anti-seat belts people who actually argued that if you were knocked unconscious in a crash that ended up in a lake, you would be unable to unbuckle yourself while you were unconscious.
Nice hypothetical.
Are the paramedics guaranteed to arrive at all? NO.
YOU are there (by definition). Nobody else is guaranteed to be.
YES ... YOU are always the First Responder to any emergency involving YOU.
Be prepared.
