"This is the original FIRST broadcast radio performance of God Bless America by Irving Berlin as introduced by Kate Smith on November 10, 1938. She later recreated it for the Warner Bros. film but this is the actual debut.

Before this, I think the song most associated with her was “When the Moon Comes over the Mountain.” Kate Smith also starred in a rather rarely-seen Paramount film “Hello, Everybody” in 1933, which I have an old VHS bootleg of. Randolph Scott was her leading man! (although she loses out to Sally Blane for his affections, as I recall).

Sadly I now only associate this song with those punk-a** Philadelphia Flyers of the 1970’s.
