Before this, I think the song most associated with her was “When the Moon Comes over the Mountain.” Kate Smith also starred in a rather rarely-seen Paramount film “Hello, Everybody” in 1933, which I have an old VHS bootleg of. Randolph Scott was her leading man! (although she loses out to Sally Blane for his affections, as I recall).
