Put a man in uniform, preferably a white man, give him a gun, and Americans will worship him. It is a particularly childish trait, of a childlike culture, that insists on anointing all active military members and police officers as heroes. The rhetorical sloppiness and intellectual shallowness of affixing such a reverent label to everyone in the military or law enforcement betrays a frightening cultural streak of nationalism, chauvinism, authoritarianism and totalitarianism, but it also makes honest and serious conversations necessary for the maintenance and enhancement of a fragile democracy nearly impossible.

Thank God for people like you!
I come from a military family also, and I will never understand why people seem to treat Vets as their “betters” or as you say “hero’s”. Pride should never be a trait of a veteran.
God Bless!
We know David,we have heard it all before, come on,let’s have it ,they are baby killers right David?
You are just another pathetic loser
You must know your enemy to defeat him. Of course this should be posted.
Im ready to fight!
I stopped at “preferably a white man”. Now that these morons have digested their catastrophic loss last Tuesday, there’ll be more articles like this one.
I stopped reading at “preferably a white man”...
A transvestite?
Thank you kindly...
Every member of the armed services is due honor and respect unless he or she has demonstrated dishonorable behavior. It is not calling everyone in uniform a “hero”. But any man who has given his life for his country is a hero. It’s a shame this brat cannot tell the difference.
I’ve noticed that the immaturity of everyone but themselves seems to be the theme at Salon this week. Once again the left is attributing it’s losses to a temper tantrum by the voters. They can continue in that delusion with my blessings.
Ask a vet who the heros are. They will tell you the ones who died. Even Audie Murphy would have said that, and most likely did.
I’m no hero. Never risked my life like the Police and Military do every day. We’ve got to discredit writing like this by exposing it and critizing it at the Free Republic. God bless.
Warning! Do not read the comments at the link!
Comments? I never even made it past the first sentence of this krap.
Soldiers who want'a be heroes
Number practically zero
But there are millions
Who want'a be civilians!
Keepin' abreast of what the enemy is up to?
Somehow I see him as a “draft dodger” should there been a draft. Typical hippie type. Put him in the face of a real veteran and see how long he lasts.
