SITTWE, Myanmar The Myanmar government has given the estimated one million Rohingya people in this coastal region of the country a dispiriting choice: Prove your family has lived here for more than 60 years and qualify for second-class citizenship, or be placed in camps and face deportation.
The policy, accompanied by a wave of decrees and legislation, has made life for the Rohingya, a long-persecuted Muslim minority, ever more desperate, spurring the biggest flow of Rohingya refugees since a major exodus two years ago.
The crisis has become an embarrassment to the White House ahead of a scheduled visit by President Obama to Myanmar next week. The administration considers Myanmar a foreign-policy success story in Asia but is worried that renewed conflict between Buddhist extremists, who are given a free hand by the government, and the Rohingya could derail the already rocky transition from military rule to democratic reform.

Buddhism isn’t a suicide pact. In Burma, the Sangha is largely appointed by the government so it’s a little easier to get them behind anti Islam conflict that’s been brewing since WWII. However, there is the idea of a just war in Buddhism and self defense from invaders fits that bill.
I don’t blame Burma ...Thailand has a huge Muslim rebellion in the South that has been killing and driving out Buddhists> The Muslims want their own pos Muslim state there....same as they always do.
:-)
Yep, see my post #11.
Burma or whatever it’s calling itself these days is not my idea of Paradise, but I think they have the right approach. Muslims should simply live elsewhere, in some already Muslim country where they can enjoy their virgins and kill off other Muslims and leave the rest of the world alone.
It’s clearly a just war for the Buddhists in Southern Thailand. In fact it’s an existential conflict.
Absolutely! Its the usual pattern where Muslim illegally immigrate in, out breed the natives, have higher birthrates, they then want the territory for themselves. So they are trying to drive Buddhists out of Southern Thailand, a land that used to be much more Buddhist by percentages...
Southern Thailand borders Muslim Malaysia so you get the picture........
President Thin Skin called President Thein Sein.
There is plenty of ocean...
That is NOT funny.
It will always be Burma to me!
Everything going according to plan.
