Americas Level of Preparedness
A brief summation of the Adelphi study reveals the following:
44 percent dont have first-aid kits 48 percent lack emergency supplies 53 percent do not have a minimum three-day supply of nonperishable food and water at home 55 percent believe local authorities will come to their rescue if disaster strikes This means that 56% of those with first-aid kits, 52% of those with emergency supplies, and 47% of those who have more than three days worth of water, will be victimized by those who have not properly planned. Please allow me to put this into a real number for you. Over 130 million teenagers and adults will be in the streets seeking to obtain life-sustaining resources in a very short time following the disaster event. This is a train wreck starting to happen.

We won’t be victimized by the have-nots here. Heckler & Koch are good friends of ours.

The math for this is ridiculous. To start with, name a disaster that will disable all of the US at once, but while leaving our entire population alive.
They suggested an EMP attack. To have a significant effect on the US, it would have to be a high altitude burst of at least 1 megaton. This means it would have to be launched by Russia, China, Britain, Israel, or the US itself.
If Russia or China did it, this would start WWIII, assuming that Obama didn’t immediately surrender, in which case his head would be on a pole and then the war would begin.
Alternatively, an international financial collapse would take quite a while to develop, giving people lots of time to mitigate things.

I wouldn't be so quick to write off San Francisco. The loonies and the board of stoopidvisors get most of the press for the entertainment of the world in general but there is an under current of conservatism and self reliance that runs in some of the general populace. I think the ever present specter of a big EQ helps foster that. Unfortunately we are out numbered by the loons but we persevere. Think of the Marquis in occupied France. Belly of the beast and all that.

Guessing a 22LR gonad shot @ 100 yds. would tend to deter.

Not true. the EMP intensity difference between a 1kT, a 10kT, and a 100kT device are not that significant if detonated at the same altitude (greater than 20 miles or so)
