If you look at the law - it DOES allow for letting your spouse or “significant other” to shoot at a registered shooting range. No such thing as a “registered” range either, and by specifying spouse, it amplifies that you can not “transfer” (loan) it to another relative (or friend).

It does allow you to gift a firearm to a close relative. You can not loan a firearm however, unless they are a member of your family, and are in “imminent” danger. And if you sell one to a relative it will require the paper work.

You can loan one to anyone if they are on a legal hunt.(???)

Yeah - it got sold as that, but it is SO much more. And in fact, you don’t need to do a background check to buy a gun at the gun show - but you DO need to complete a background check to become a member so you can go to the gunshow! (So yes - background checks ARE done. Just not for each and every gun.)

And it is already a felony to sell a gun to someone that isn’t supposed to own a gun.

But now it will also be a felony to loan (i.e. “transfer”) a gun to my son even if shooting together.

Like I reminded my kids today, democracy like this (with citizen sponsered bills) is like one sheep and two wolves voting on what is for dinner. (And super rich wolves in this case. Not sure where the NRA was on this one.)
