This true. Also vitamin k2, d3, and vitamin A have a role in the amount that is absorbed.

The proteins, fats, and sugars in the milk of various mammalian species are adapted to the specific needs and metabolism of that particular species.

Entire human populations are thus "lactose intolerant." Over the years, adults from other populations develop or adapt to a level of tolerance for cow's milk, but heavy cow's milk drinking by humans is not good idea because of immune system reactions to cows' milk proteins, which occur in all humans, some at a barely perceptible level, others much more seriously. For example, a child may be intolerant of cow's milk, but thrive on goat milk, or sheep's milk, even horse milk!

There are also benefits to humans, especially in the provision of calcium, balanced with an individual's lactose sensitivity. Some people are also violently allergic to eggs, an otherwise great source of protein for many others.

I stopped drinking milk (whole milk) about 2 months ago and have since steadily gained weight since.

If I don't have a glass of whole milk in the morning, I spend the whole rest of the day feeling like I haven't eaten, no matter what else I eat. If I go 2 or 3 days without milk, I feel like I've been run over by a truck.

Everybody's different, but some of us need the milk and some don't. Maybe not drinking milk is making you feel hungrier than usual, and you're eating more than you realize to try and fill the hunger?

Good advice. I’m not sure if it’s because I am 40, life stresses or the recent loss of a baby in the second trimester and ensuing hormonal changes. My weight should be going down from the pregnancy, but instead is creeping up. Weird. I cut out milk after losing the baby just to save it for the kids and cut calories out for me but it hasn’t worked.

The Finns have a very high level of tolerance for lactose and ingest a lot of dairy - they also have amongst the highest levels of osteoporosis. They are getting large amounts of calcium without the other nutrients with which it works in conjunction.

The Finns.....

also drink a lot and have lots of heart attacks. But how this all fits together is worth some study. Since I am pals with some Finns and enjoy drinking with them, I volunteer to do the all important field work in Finland.

Thanks, though Donsbach has been jailed as a quack and lactose intolerance doesn’t have anything to do with proteins. I of course don’t know what “NIH studies” you have in mind.

I personally believe that dairy is a safer source of calcium than ground seashells. When arteries get clogged, it’s more calcium than anything else. Pig fat and beef fat act as ‘glue’ that collects any calcium that is ‘sharp edged’.

Milk has calcium from grass that is much tinier and less likely to clog arteries.

I worked out a home remedy for at least one person with lactose intollerance. I suspected that there might be a bacteria in the small intestine, so I recommended someone try to swallow LARGE slices of jallopeno peppers WHOLE. Not chopped up. The hypothesis was that the pepper would scrape along the small intestine’s wall and kill bacteria.

Just a few large slices that way each day.

I also recommended avoiding ALL dairy for a few months which is a lot harder than people think. Dairy byproducts are hidden in all kinds of things under different names.

Sure enough, the antibodies that kept attacking lactose withered on the vine. The person is now CURED. Drinks all the milk she wants.

Finally, a serious researcher has addressed the pressing problem of lactose intolerance in the highlands of Quintana Roo!
