STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State safety Ryan Keiser remains hospitalized after having fractured a rib in practice last Thursday and undergoing operations for a related small bowel injury. According to a source, he is not in critical condition but is "also not great."
A spokesman for the Penn State Hershey Medical Center declined to disclose his condition and referred questions to Nittany Lions coach James Franklin, who would only say Tuesday afternoon that the senior had no infection and was "improving." Keiser is out for the season.
"Our trainers and doctors have been in constant contact and have been involved every step of the way," Franklin said during his weekly news conference.
Kesier arrived in Happy Valley as an unheralded walk-on in 2010 but quickly made an impact after he redshirted his first season. He's played in 42 games, starting 11, and earned a scholarship.
In six games this season, he had 25 tackles along with an interception and three pass deflections. He also made calls for the defense.
"I love Ryan Keiser," Franklin said. "I love everything about him. He is one of the nicest, most kind, most thoughtful kids I've been around. Same thing with his family."
Safety Ryan Keiser, a former walk-on, has played in 42 games for Penn State and started 11.
Are they SURE the fractured rib is what punctured his bowel?
This IS Penn State, after all....
A side note, there have been a few reports of player infections thought to have been acquired from the artificial playing surfaces. Could this possibly be the case in this instance?
Oh are you bad!!!! (It was a valid question tho.......!!!)
You think that’s funny? While a kid is fighting for his life? smh
No. Not at all. Rib punctures bowel, stuff leaks all over your innerds, infections happen.
Staph infection studies have been done on synthetic fields that have shown the concern to be a non-starter anyway.
Good point. Agreed, my post was 100% out of line. Seriously, I do apologize.

...belated posting on my part, but should you read this, yes indeed you should apologize...profusely...

...again, belated, but as I’m sure you know...there’s a time and place for jocular commentary...
...and when someone is in intensive care in a hospital probably isn’t that time...
...but as I said, you probably already knew that...
I have made jocular commentary (about myself) WHILE in intensive care (myself).
So, at least I am not a hypocrite.
Already done. Shove off sonny.
Shove off sonny.
...such marvelous repartee can be had on this forum...
Went right over your smarmy head, did it?
Not only not a hypocrite but damned witty.
I didn’t even take your wisecrack as directed at the young man.
It was a joke about a disgraced football program, and it was on the mark.
Thanks.
Speedy recovery, kid.
You’re the joke, btw.
Correct.
No, he isn’t. Someone is, but it’s not him.
