Well, having a double laminectomy/ Discectomy tomorrow. I don't really want to do it, but the doctor says the longer I wait the less likely function will return. I have 50% weakness in the left leg and a foot drop. It turns out I have direct impingement on the nerves which is blocking the nerve impulses. I've done excersize/therapy in the past. This time 0% improvement after 5 weeks of therapy. If this doesn't give me some improvement I'm looking at medical retirement (law enforcement). I don't really want to retire now, but God is good, I guess we'll let him take care of it. I would appreciate any and all prayers for me. I'm getting older and not afraid to admit I need all the help I can get. Please be advised any responses to this thread after tomorrow afternoon might be a little flaky or bizarre due to pain medication. Apologies in advance.

They said some of the impingement is “idiopathic” which is a fancy word for “we don’t know” what’s causing it. They said some of it may be congenital, or there may be bone spurs in the nerve canal. they won’t know until they get in there. It’s a hard area to image properly.

May the Divine Physician guide the surgeons scalpel and may He touch your heart and remove any anxiety you have about the outcome.
Try not to be afraid, the Gospels command it, everything is going according to His plan.
Prayers sent.
I had neck vertebrae surgery in 2008 to relieve pain in my arm that was somewhat debilitating and I’m just a software consultant. It got to the point where a decision had to be made. The Rxs were no longer working much.
It was an immediate relief for me. No more pain.
Praying here too, for you, the medical team, and for a swift recovery.
God bless and keep you, Celtic Conservative.
God be with you, friend.
Prayers up.
Praying from here.
I retired at 53 and had planned to work until 62. Administrator in youth corrections in Cal.
Tough psychologically. I hope you have family and friends to talk to, pastor maybe.
Many people think it’s a breeze getting early retirement, but I was angry and in denial for years after my medical retirement (heart attack).
Best wishes to you and a few prayers.
How about good (fake) “departure opus”? That would be fun with a couple of vicodins.

Happy to pray for your successful surgery and for your soon looking back wondering why you waited or had any hesitation.
Prayers said, CC...
Prayers up.
I know how it feels. I had my lamenectomy 21 years ago at age 35. I understand the surgery has changed quite a bit since then. I know the type of pain you have probably experienced, it’s like a tooth ache . My surgery went well and I’ll never regret having it. I hope
yours goes as well as mine and you’re back on your feet soon
Prayers up for a successful outcome, FRiend!
Had two buddies have this done. Great recoveries, very happy with the results. Have the anesthesiologist put something in for nausea if you haven’t had many surgeries. Positive mental attitude.
Prayers up for ya
Prayers up!
A prayer for a successful recovery and then it’s back to work, CC. It’s good to know FReepers on or near the front lines of the republic. Thanks for posting.
A big Irish Catholic family and a good shrink. I have come to the realization that I probably wouldn’t be upset if I never wore a badge again. Thats’s just physically and emotionally grueling. But a guy’s still gotta eat.

CC, I was like you two weeks ago, apprehensive, hell, scared. I had brain surgery on the 6th. Recovery has been better than the fear I had going in. Praying for you that your worries make it until they give you that pre-op shot that Takes all your worries away. After that, it’s just one moment after another.
And yes, you can FReep while on drugs. Probably a lot of these FReepers do it regularly. I sometimes has to preface my unedited comments with a - hey, I’m on post op drugs but... Whatever the units of morphine they give Ya, you can still still freep after 1 unit, but after 2 you won’t really care about free republic and will be better off laughing at TV commercials like the one where some chick loves bacon so much at Carl’s jr or Burger King that she sculpts a life sized condor out of it. I thought it was the morphine but no, it was real.
Two weeks out, I am very fatigued but making it. Wishing you the best of outcomes, my FRiend, prayers up.
