5 years ago, I purchased an LG front load washer and dryer set. My expectations were as high as the price. About 2 years into it, the first washing machine failed and after many life intruding service calls, I got a new machine under the "lemon" provision of the warranty. This past Sunday, my "new" washer took a dump. Tub won't move. It will run an entire washing cycle and the tub never moves an inch. I have no warranty left and am not inclined to throw any more good money after bad.
We're gong back to a top loader and steering clear of LG and Samsung.
What say ye on the best top loader washer dryer combo today?
Aside from the inconvenience and expense, this experience has solved one problem for me. I now have a target for the family Thanksgiving Day shoot!

After over 30 years of owning no doubt it’s Maytag, we are on our second set.
I’m old school and stick w Maytag.
I also didn’t fall for the wonders of a front loading washer.
Do you have a front loading coffee cup to “save water”?
I’ve always had good luck with Whirlpool.
Nope, too expensive and high maintenance.....
PS- It’s called the Bravo, clear lid and large capacity.
“We’re gong back to a top loader “
Good decision. I’ve always had Sears (which I think is Whirlpool)
A friend of mine who has an appliance repair business recommends Bosch......
Just get a basic no bells and whistles machine, I’ve found they last a very long time.
Speed Queen gets a lot of buzz... They make the machines in the laundromats afterall. Myself, personally, I run a 1962 Speed Queen Model 60 wringer washer and a clothesline. Best 40 bucks I spent on a Craigslist item, ever.
My girl has owned an Lg front loading set for about two years now....no issues. I love them. The washer gets clothes cleaner than a top loader...and it spins the clothes so dry...drying cycle measured in minutes.
The front loaders are complete garbage, they just look cool.
Just get a whirlpool traditional with a fast spin cycle
You can never go wrong with a stream, some rocks and a clothesline. The only drawback is in the winter when it gets a bit icy down on the banks of the creek.
Maytag
Look up “appliances planned obsolescence”
Thank you all for the replies. I am following.
I’ve read a lot on line and seeing a lot of the same things echoed here.
Basic top load machine, no bells or whistles. Whirlpool, Maytag and Speed Queen seem to be the most favored.
The old Maytag top loaders are beautiful machines; you have to take it apart to understand what I mean.
There is no clutch. To enter spin mode the motor reverses and the tub and transmission spin as a unit. Beautiful. The belt can be changed without tools by reaching under the front of the machine. The weakest point on the old Maytags is the timer.
But the new machines have a BIG advantage: they spin so fast that they extract more water, resulting in shorter drying times.
Search an old machine out at a used appliance store. Get the extra large size if you can find one. Usually those dealers will sell a maintenance contract with their machine - think about it.
Two Korean companies, Lucky and Gold, merged and became LG. How can you go wrong buying Lucky Gold? Every one I know has front loaders and LOVES them. We love our LG front loader as well as our LG tv. I am a huge LG fan.
