Mutant Ebola warning:LeadingU.S.scientist warns deadlyvirus is already changing to become more conta

The deadly Ebola virus could be mutating to become even more contagious, a leading U.S scientist has warned.

The disease has killed nearly 4,000 people, infecting in excess of 8,000 - the majority in the West African nations of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

Communities lie in ruins, thousands of children have been orphaned, millions face starvation but the virus continues its unprecedented pace, invading and destroying vast swathes of these countries.

Meanwhile three nurses, two in the U.S. and one in Spain have caught the infection while treating Ebola patients, despite wearing protective suits.

Now U.S. scientist Peter Jahrling of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease believes the current Ebola outbreak may be caused by an infection that spreads more easily than it did before.

Dr Jahrling explained that his team, who are working in the epicentre of the crisis in the Liberian capital of Monrovia, are seeing that the viral loads in Ebola patients are much higher than they are used to seeing....

How? There are probably over 500 million firearms and many hundreds of billions of rounds of ammunition in the hands of private citizens. Add to that crossbows, bows, high-powered air rifles, swords, stun guns, tasers, tear gas, improvised explosives, home-made guns, 3D printed weapons, garden implements, Molotov cocktails and the like and even the five largest armies on Earth couldn't subdue us.

When it comes down to, “If you withhold your weapons, we will withhold medical care,” that will be a strong message for compliance. With today’s “background checks,” Big Bertha Government knows what weapons the citizen possesses. All they have to do is say, “We know you have it, so turn it over.” If you or your family needed treatment, tough luck if you refused.

Once all the guns are confiscated, the sky is the limit for the totalitarians.

Background checks are relatively recent and don't apply to all classes of weapons and there are loopholes. There are hundreds of millions of firearms that they know nothing about. Not a thing.

Not so fast. There would be so many shoot outs, the major cause of death would not be Ebola.

This strain of Ebola is the most virulent in history. It includes aerosol transmission capability which gives it the ability to infect from quite a distance (measured in feet or even yards). Because of this, in Africa for each person who becomes infected two more become infected. To defeat the epidemic it is necessary to have that reduce to below one. At this growth rate it is being estimated that there may be over a million infections sometime in January with nearly a million deaths!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting. At what point in the future will this become #1 in terms of things that kill people in a given year. 2015? 2016? 2017? etc.

Be prepared.

The way things went down in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina will be the same kind of craziness if there is an Ebola epidemic. There will be looting, people shooting at others and people setting fires. What kind of response from the government is speculation. Maybe the kind of speculation I envision is exaggerated. A pandemic like what Ebola is able to bring is something way beyond the disasters we have experienced. The way Big Bertha Government is capable of making big mistakes, I have no confidence they will react to the chaos with reasonable care to Constitutional rights.

“Meanwhile three nurses, two in the U.S. and one in Spain have caught the infection while treating Ebola patients, despite wearing protective suits.”

This is what I don’t like and I have yet to believe it at all. I too wear a coat in the winter but I catch a cold..but I don’t say I caught a cold even when I wore a coat. That puts unnecessary spin and angst into the discussion and makes it misleading. Was she wearing protective suit? Yes...has the full story and investigation come out yet to explain her minute by minute actions when she was not in the suit? Where she went what she handhandled and what she touched? Who she met with when not in the suit? No....the entire media is spewing this line for ratings creating further panic and it makes me sick to the core.

If they do, you're doing it wrong. They should only know about the one(s) you will turn in.

Certain Constitutional Rights are less important than saving American people. You can protest, but if I were a police officer, and a serious disease/hurricane were coming, I would have every right to demand you remain out of a danger zone. The solution to the crisis would mean that you could go back to business as usual. The government does have a right to do things for the sake of extenuating circumstances. What you really meant was having a means to restore things back to the peaceful state. In this case, however, the government all but handles anything correctly, meaning that we are at an ever increasing risk of developing ANARCHY, which is the worst form of tyranny. I agree, Ebola can bring down the entire order nationwide if it is not competently controlled.

Please! People do you really think the gov. will give you anything? If you are conservative, right wing, tea party or have a R,I,L behind your name on the voting rolls you will die. The country is split three ways. A third patriots, a third communist's, a third I don't give a shit tell it effects me. You go ahead and turn your food, guns, money and children to the gov. get on the bus and shut up. By the way if they offer you a shower first thing say good night.

Even moreso, despite all that surveillance, people still regularly make it past their many eyes. I guess many eyes isn’t indefinitely powerful, and not immune to spamming the system, or hiding within a crowd. The Boston Marathon Bombing, for instance, happened in a supposedly heavily surveilled area, under plenty of cameras.

Europe passed travel restrictions, plus making really long trips while Ebola infected is unlikely, given the short time frame (most show symptoms in only a few days) for ebola.

Lt's see -
- More hosts than ever before to provide more mutation opportunities.
- Recent news that the countries with the outbreaks cannot track the true number of cases.

We have a situation where folks are trusting faulty data on true numbers of cases and an environment that is conducive to mutation, and nobody in "leadership" seems to have a clue or the propensity for telling the truth.

"There have been Ebola outbreaks in the past. What did we do here then to prevent it from coming here? Anything different than now? Why didn’t it spread here and to Europe then? Is international travel that much more prevalent now? Were the previous outbreaks not as bad as this one?"

1. CDC: "Known Cases and Outbreaks of Ebola Virus Disease, in Reverse Chronological Order:"

More people have died during the present outbreak than during all of the previous outbreaks combined. But it's not that governmental agencies haven't had any warning about this. They've known about Ebola for nearly 40 years now. I read "The Hot Zone" on the train 20 years ago.

2. Ebola Transmission: From the WHO

Transmission

"It is thought that fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family are natural Ebola virus hosts. Ebola is introduced into the human population through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected animals such as chimpanzees, gorillas, fruit bats, monkeys, forest antelope and porcupines found ill or dead or in the rainforest.

"Ebola then spreads through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids.

"Health-care workers have frequently been infected while treating patients with suspected or confirmed EVD. This has occurred through close contact with patients when infection control precautions are not strictly practiced.

"Burial ceremonies in which mourners have direct contact with the body of the deceased person can also play a role in the transmission of Ebola."

As noted in posts above -- in the United States, Obola is much more of a threat to our health and well being than Ebola.

Obama has created the ultimate cluster**** government. Dealing with health problems like Ebola is supposed to be the primary mission of agencies like CDC and NIH. Instead, Obama has appointed like-minded incompetents. They transformed governmental agencies into the vanguard of Political Correctness and fund ridiculous research topics like "why lesbians get fat", "chimpanzees with the best poo-flinging skills are also the best communicators", and "male fruit flies prefer younger female fruit flies". Consequently, they are failing dismally at their primary mission. (CDC has finally revised the "Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)" guidelines for Ebola caregivers from the prior recommendations, which seemed to be recommendations preserved from the early 1980s, and were woefully inadequate for a pathogen like Ebola. As of this morning, now months into the Ebola outbreak, on October 19, 2014, the CDC recommendations are, (and I'm serious, go to the CDC website): ***"PPE Recommendations are forthcoming".***

Despite the often jaw-dropping Obama administration incompetence, it still isn't very likely (but it's not "impossible") that we're going to catch Ebola on a bus, or shopping at WalMart. The effects of this Ebola outbreak are more likely to influence people's behavior, and as a result of that, take a toll on the world economy.

(Don't eat the fruit bats!)

Ebola in the past broke out in rural villages and was so lethal it killed all human hosts and essentially burned itself out. Now it has moved into large urban areas and has crossed borders. It is also probably mutating to survive longer and could become endemic like the flu.
