If you're going to be flying soon and plan on making an Ebola joke, don't. Yesterday at an airport in the Dominican Republic, a man who joked about having Ebola and recently visiting West Africa was taken off a flight from Philadelphia by men in blue hazmat suits. Before the men boarded the plane, a flight attendant warned passengers things would "look worse than they really are."
"Once we landed in Punta Cana we were told by the flight attendants that there was a situation and that a passenger may have been in Africa and had Ebola. She was certain it was a hoax but they did not take any chances and had a full hazmat crew board the plane and take the passenger off. It was later confirmed that the passenger was never in Africa and after 2hrs we were finally able to get off the plane," the caption on a a video posted by Patrick Narvaez and Jukin Media states.
So, the guy who joked about having Ebola was ripped off a plane by guys wearing hazmat suits, yet the CDC would argue the people who were on the plane sitting next to him would have been totally fine if he in fact did have Ebola. Makes sense.
Meanwhile, CDC Director Tom Friedman is out with an op-ed today tripling down on his position that travel restrictions from Ebola stricken countries should not be implemented.
Little Tommy “The BIG Gulp Killer” Frieden creeps me out every time I see him shooting off his mouth on the tube. He sure doesn’t inspire much confidence that the government knows what the hell it is doing.

We utterly live is a ‘disconnected’ country.
Wa DC is the cockpit of our national ‘plane’, if you were to poke through the cockpit door at 35,000 ft, you would find no one at the controls.
“I ain’t from Afica-$hit”.
70% of the people who waste space on this planet are idiots.
As for Friedman and the prankster, stake 'em out with a large anthill between them and let the bugs decide...
Sort of like making hijack jokes in an airport shortly after 9/11. It was a good way to get a free one way trip to Cuba.
BS
If there was no chance of fellow passenger catching Ebola from this passenger, why were those taking this idiot off the plane wearing containment suits?
That was the first thing that came to my mind.
This guy is evidently not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Frieden is by far the bigger dumbass. The guy on the plane only scared and inconvenienced a few people, but Frieden will wind up killing millions because of his stupidity, lack of integrity and criminal negligence for enabling an arrogant and purely political little boy to play with all of our lives. Comparisons to Admiral Kimmel would be inadequate at best, especially since Kimmel may have simply been a scapegoat for his boss’ failures.
during the SARS ridiculousness back in 2003, I was in Hong Kong and joked (obviously) that my wife, he was having allergies, may have SARS.
Busybody women she knew spread the rumor, and within 1 day, the principal of my kids’ school called to tell them not to attend for a week or so.
The thing I don’t understand and am ticked off about is why in the heck we don’t have a comprehensive plan in place.
Just wait till flu season hits...it will be a nightmare.
DC, as in the District of Criminals, are just keeping it real!
+1 to the lady holding her sweater over her face....LOL
Had a diabetic have a problem on a flight from MSY to MIA.
Had to land in Tampa to save 20 minutes, lest the idiot expire.
Can only imagine what the attendants had to go through on this one, and because of a joke?
The take away from this one is be careful who you sit next to, FEDGOV is not on our side.
If the hazmat guys turned up inside a plane I was on, I’d cover myself as best I could, too. It’s probably automatic, but her reflex wouldn’t be especially effective since she’s only covering her mouth as if it was a typical airborne virus.
Taking pics would not occur to me, though.
He knows what he’s doing if you consider the idea that a little itty bitty Ebola outbreak here will have him overseeing CDC budgets that will leave his predecessors in tears.
Of course, from the standpoint of the citizenry, that looks like it might carry a tad more risk than we’d like...
