AUBURN, Ala. -- Nick Marshall and the Auburn Tigers rose to the occasion on a week when most of the teams ranked ahead of them fell.
Marshall passed for 207 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 119 and two more scores to lead No. 5 Auburn to a 41-7 blowout of No. 15 LSU on Saturday night.
Auburn (5-0, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) dominated from the start on a week when No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Alabama and No. 4 Oklahoma were upset. The 41 points equaled Auburn's highest total in the rivalry -- set with the same margin in the 1999 game.
"Nick played like one of the better quarterbacks in the entire country," Malzahn said.
And Auburn played like one of the better teams.
LSU (4-2, 0-2), which turned to freshman quarterback Brandon Harris, has dropped its first two SEC games for the first time in coach Les Miles' decade-long tenure.
Harris completed 3 of 14 passes for 58 yards before getting replaced late in the third quarter by former starter Anthony Jennings.
With Marshall playing again like the Heisman Trophy candidate many expected him to be, Auburn could rise to the No. 2 spot it held after last season.
He completed 14 of 22 passes, had 16 carries and supplied a steady diet of big plays. Marshall threw touchdown passes of 56 yards to Sammie Coates and 9 yards to tight end C.J. Uzomah, and scored on runs of 7 and 29 yards.

Wait? What? EVEY PAC 12 ranked team lost?!!!!
How low Tennessee fans must feel knowing they are still winless against the worst head coach in college football.
Driskel should never play another down for Florida.
It’s hard to know how good Notre Dame is yet, but we’ll know in a couple of weeks when they play Florida State. We may even find out how good Florida State is, too.
11 of the top 25 teams lost today.
These are the 14 teams that didn’t lose today and probably how they’ll be ranked
FSU
Auburn
Baylor
Notre Dame
Michigan State
Mississippi
Mississippi State
Georgia
Ohio State
Oklahoma State
East Carolina
Kansas State
Missouri
TCU
The potential Final Four is shaping up:
FSU/Notre Dame winner
Baylor (if they go unbeaten)
Auburn/Mississippi/Mississippi State
Ohio State/Michigan State
Woohoo!
Yes, today’s game felt very good to me. I did think of ABG however. He and I were opposing each other today.
I have been a Maroon and White Bulldog since I was a kid and listening to the Voice of the Bulldogs. My late husband and I met in The Grill on State’s campus way back in 1962. Wonderful memories. I had some cowbells but noticed one was missing last night. Why would anyone steal a cowbell? Hail State! That game was wrapped in Maroon and White.
War Eagle.
I am a Bama fan but I’ve always liked the Bulldogs too. I have lots of Bulldog friends.
Auburn should be ranked #1. Week end and week out SEC teams beat up on each other. This is the most balanced conference in the country. I don’t see any weak teams. FSU beats up teams in a basketball conference and has no defense to speak of. Plus Winston should be in prison, not playing football.
Look for Jake Coker to be the starting quarterback for Alabama any day now. He’s better than Sims. Sims lost that game yesterday.
Most State fans are very nice. Jack Cristil taught me football. He started doing play by play about 1953. I would get a sheet of paper and a pencil and draw the plays, downs, yards lost/gained etc. I love football and really, really miss Jack. He was from Tupelo and my hometown is about 30 miles south. We met him several times at basketball games in the old gym.
Most State fans are very nice.
Very true. And very loyal fans that just enjoy the game. I pull for them except when they play Bama.
I would enjoy seeing MSU win it all this year since I don’t believe Bama will be in that discussion. Either way, I am sure Bulldog fans will have a memorable season.
Great game! The rest of their schedule is tough . . . looked much better this week~!!! War Eagle!
And on #19 it looked more like his helmet at this opponents shoulder . . . maybe a late hit but I didn’t think targeting was deserved.
State is better known for its baseball team and it use to be basketball. I was there when The Babe ooached. When I was in junior high, the Jr Scholastic magazine had an article about Bailey Howell, the great State basketball player. We were thrilled. I have a friend who played for AU and he said he thought State would have a great team this year. This was before the season started. Sure hope so. Has been a long time.
Jemian, am I on that list? Please add me if not. Thanks.
It was a delightful game....hope you have seen it by now.
WAR EAGLE
I want on anylist regarding Auburn. How are you all in indonesia?
You both are already on the list.
South, we’re doing well here in Indo. This summer was very rough on me, and therefore hubby, as well. In a nutshell, one week I developed a kidney infection, malaria, and dengue fever. My hemoglobin went down to 6.8 which meant that I barely had energy to walk 10 feet from my bed to the bathroom. Hubby had to take care of me so he got nothing done, too. For the most part, I’m well now. I am still dealing with hair loss and that is not doing my vanity at all well.
This year, hubby teaches all the students in the middle school, about 50, and most of the high school students, so add another 25 to that. I teach in the sixth grade, 15 great kids. Pray particularly for a young girl, Imogene (not her real name), who is from the ROP. In our Bible class, we’re studying the covenants this year and so she is learning basic, fundamental Christianity. Imogene is a delightful young lady. Pray for her soul.
