Whatever it takes to put the death knell in PC is a small price.

What are the troops meant to do when they come across a fleeing Ebola patient, wrestle them to the ground or shoot them?

Our govt is being run by idiots who are as idiotic as the idiots who voted them in and that’s scary as hell.

There are over 300,000 US Visa holders in the countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia. They can come to this country any time they want to, and unless they are vomiting or their eyes are bleeding before they board the plane, they will be allowed to enter this country. Their destinations are where ever there is a large contingent of their people in this country. Washington DC is one of the largest contingent of these people.

Ebola won’t be a death knell for democrats, because they’re going to manage it into a full-scale crisis... and what happens when Americans are faced with crises? They clamor for government action to protect them. What better time for such a dynamic to develop at election time? Hurricane Sandy presented Obama with a huge gift of being able to appear like a “commander-in-chief” in NJ and NY in the runup to the 2012 election. Exit polls showed many of those who voted for Obama stated his (albeit token) actions and photo ops with Chris Christie on the heels of the hurricane did it for them.

Let’s hope so.

If it hits the inner cities and blacks start dropping like flies, as the usual government incompetence is displayed, it’s going to be called *racism*.

I can only hope that it opens the eyes of everyone to see that the DEMOCRATIC controlling government is the one to blame.

I at least, will point that out to everyone who tries to blame the Republicans.

Democrats are okay with some dead Americans. Americans in their own homes, sacrificed on the altar of liberal hubris about the power of government and political correctness. That doesn’t sound like the government we expect in America. We expect our government to go to extraordinary lengths to protect us, and we are not getting it.

Sadly, this is not the first time that the Federal Government and the CDC have treated an infectious disease like a political football. Most people outside the medical field do not know that they did the very same thing with HIV/AIDS. They knew that it was being spread primarily through sexual activity among gay males, but the gay and lesbian lobby did not want it to be treated like any other sexually transmitted disease.

Once a patient is diagnosed with gonorrhea, for example, he/she is questioned about their sexual contacts so that those people can be contacted and offered treatment as well. Not only were HIV patients not asked to reveal their contacts, for years they were allowed to remain anonymous for testing purposes. I will always believe that these deliberate, PC actions allowed the AIDS epidemic to spread in the US much more easily than it would have had traditional infectious control procedures been followed.

HIV/AIDS is a behaviorally spread disease; that is, if one avoids sexual contact with two groups (sexual/bisexual males and IV drug users), one has a reasonable expectation of avoiding infection. Ebola is quite another matter. Although it is not spread by aerosol inhalation, it can be spread by contact with even minute amounts of blood or body fluids from an infected person. The HIV/AIDs epidemic is now under control (no thanks to the CDC) and we now have excellent protocols for treating infected persons. An Ebola epidemic, should it occur, would not be so easily contained.

As a Medical Technologist, the response of the CDC and local authorities to this minor outbreak has made me concerned about their ability to contain the disease at all. Although I am not in "panic mode" by any means because I do have confidence in the ability of properly trained medical personnel to contain the disease once they encounter an infected person, I do not believe at all the claim that "patients without symptoms are not infectious". If a person is carrying the virus, they have the potential to transmit it to someone else. The existence of "carriers" (those who harbor an infectious organism but never show symptoms of active disease) is well documented with other diseases and I have no reason to believe that carriers could not exist in the case of Ebola.

Was that Dallas judge who entered the Ebola apartment sans protective clothing also placed into quarantine?

It may be politically incorrect, but they should put the family in a monitored quarantine facility. They should also spray chlorine bleach and lye outside the apartment onto anywhere the guy vomited, spit or even sneezed. To finish it off, the building and its contents should be burned.

Obama gave himself a security force in ADA and has Executive Ordered himself the right to declare martial law and detain people indefinitely in an “emergency. Now he has actively imported Central Americans, many of them bearing contagious diseases, and dispersed them around the country. Children are getting sick around the country with “mysterious” illnesses. Now he is refusing to restrict Ebola patients’ ingress into our country from foreign lands. Is there any question left as to what the Bioterrorist-in-Chief Obama is up to????? In response to a “public outcry”, he will declare a national emergency, probably before election day. Where that takes us does not take much imagination.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin…BANG!

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

NJ just had the first death of a child due to the new virus introduced within the last 5 months.

That hit home, and at the voting booth.

When it comes to detecting Ebola the current ‘screening” process is totally ineffective. Duncan KNEW he had been exposed to Ebola but got on an airliner anyways after lying to the screeners.

That should be the model we use to develop effective screening procedures. Lacking effective screening procedures a strict quarantine is the only alternative.

Is a strict quarantine a pain? Yes it is. But then what price do you, personally, want to pay? Some people complaining about an inconvenience or reading friend’s and family’s names in the newspapers as either being quarantined or dead. BTW - both cases will require anyone who had contact with them to report for immediate medical screening on the penalty of arrest and detainment for the “public good”.

Right now we need to push two things.

First is the development and deployment of a rapid and extremely accurate Ebola screening capability. Since Ebola is a hemorrhagic fever this capability will require blood testing. (If that’s how the CDC confirms Ebola cases why not move this procedure to the “front of the line” instead of keeping it in the “back of the line” where it is today?).
This effort needs to be a NATIONAL SECURITY priority.

Second is the manufacture and stockpiling of ZMapp and similar, as yet undeveloped, drugs. I personally find it unacceptable that the only thing we can do for a person infected with a hemorrhagic fever is to provide supportive care. He either dies or gets better on his own. WRONG. Look what we did to polo in the 1940s and 1950s. Are our research scientists less capable that their grand fathers? This too needs to be a NATIONAL SECURITY priority.

BTW - making both efforts a National Security issue isn’t my idea, it has already been expressed by administration officials.
