Anecdote: One of the Krupp family, as in arms producers, was a closeted homosexual. Some of the officers on the German General Staff attended a birthday bash for him. One of these officers had written music to be performed with a birthday dance created specially for Freidrich Alfred Krupp. Unfortunately, the exertion was too much for the general; he collapsed and died. Imagine the scene of all these senior German officers getting the corpse out of his tutu and into his uniform! Everything was dutifully hushed-up.
Later on, Fredrich Alfred was caught with 40 adolescent boys at his vacation villa on the Isle of Capri, Italy. On 15 November 1902 the magazine Vorwärts claimed in an article that Friedrich Alfred Krupp was homosexual, that he had a number of liaisons with local boys and men. His fondest attachment was to Adolfo Schiano, an 18-year-old barber and amateur musician. A week after publication, Alfred Krupp committed suicide on 22 November 1902.
