A Washington man was arrested on assault and drug charges after trying to pet a bull moose in a cemetery in Spokane over the weekend.
On Sunday, a bull moose wandered into the Holy Cross Cemetery, attracting a crowd of onlookers. According to KXYL, Wildlife officers arrived on the scene and tried to disperse the crowd. Most everyone was cooperative. Everyone except for Joshua Patterson.
Patterson, 33, tried to pet the moose even after officers ordered him not to. When an officer told Patterson he was under arrest, he refused to comply. Instead, he blew smoke in the officers face, hit her arm, stole her taser, and ran away.
He didnt get far. A short time later, cops took Patterson into custody. Patterson had illegal prescription drugs on him, so he was hit with both drug and assault charges. Hes being held on a $10,000 bond.
As for the moose, wildlife officers managed to tranquilize and relocate it to a nearby county.
While it might seem like the consequences of Pattersons actions couldnt be any worse, consider what might have happened had he actually petted the bull moose. Hed probably be minced meat right now.
Please, dont pet the moose.

That's what he was originally arrested for.
The worse sentence they could serve is to not the idiot have his prescriptions after they wear off. I have a feeling he might really need them then...lol
The right way is to pet his nose through the fence, after choosing a tame moose used to being around people.
Me and Seymour about a decade ago...
What happened? Did it go wild, and attempt to bite his sister?
I was almost run over by a Moose ,it was like a Tank driving by
>> Me and Seymour
Which one is you?
:-)
Best line out of the whole article.
I’d put it on the list with “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind, You don’t pull the mask off the Lone Ranger . . .”
First moose I ever saw in the wild was so big that it covered an entire 2-lane road.
You wouldn’t catch me going anywhere NEAR that thing!
Seymour is the good looking one. That is why he was in many commercials and a few movies.
Well, that and the fact he was basically raised by people after his mama was killed on the highway and he was raised by the folks at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. He is tamer than most people.
Sounds like an officer who needs a little more training. She's lucky she didn't get hurt or killed.
A moose once bit a fellow FReeper’s sister, IIRC.
“Patterson had illegal prescription drugs on him...”
I bet he had some of them IN him, too.
Mynd you, møøse bites Kan be pretti nasti...
You didn’t stomp him hard enough.
Great, story about a moose and a squirrel...
They wander through my yard on occasion. Any sane and sober person gives them a very wide berth. One of my neighbors' dogs made the mistake of barking at one a few years ago. The dog was behind a chain link fence, which the moose casually stepped over just to kick the dog in the head. The dog is lucky to have survived, but he's now known as "the one-eyed-dog."
...and you don't go to a therapist who wears a toupée.
