Covert Communications

When it all hits the wall, one thing you should be sure of is that someone is listening to every communication you make within reception range. Many will use scanners to try and find you or your group. If they hear radio activity, especially activity on the short-range radios, they will know you are near. Some will use direction-finding antennas to get your exact location. The idea with radio comms is to use the least power and radio with the least range that will get you reliable comms. If all has gone south, you will want to use radio only when necessary, and then keep your conversation short and don’t transmit from your base; do so from a distance, if possible. The first radio suggested is the Trisquare brand. It can be used anytime without being discovered, except by the military if they are looking for you and have radio direction-finding equipment within range, but the chances of that are slim

And that gold will never be used in the currency’s place and has not been used for exchanging goods since the times of Rome

That would be incorrect, people could and did write gold payment clauses into American contracts up until 1933.

"I am sure our FReeper Radio enthusiast will chime in with their own thoughts. "

Being an ex-Navy Radioman, yes I have some comment.

The author of the article is essentially correct in every recommendation.

But I would make it simpler:

1. CB radio with very short transmission times (think 1 minute per hour in 5 different transmissions).

You get, regular range, 25 miles.

There's a new Family Band (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio_Service) which communicates on the first 7 channels with GMRS radios that offers cheap and legal radios.

Think Radio Shack.

Both Family Radio Service and GMRS are relatively short range (2-15 miles) but CB is consistently good at 20-30.

If you don't want to get caught: Keep transmission SHORT and INFREQUENT, or it doesn't matter what band or encoding you use, they will find and kill you.

That is CERTAIN.

Rawles book “Patriots” has some good information in it on covert communications. He’s done his homework.

Not sure I would want to be shining a big light in these conditions. Direct connect landline is best but impractical in most cases.

You got that right. Limit transmission time and move.

It depends. Even "one if by land, two if by sea" might have tactical value. Laser or a regular light that is shielded to be visible from only a narrow angle also has potential. A red (or green) shade over a normally white light may send a critical message without being recognized by our enemies. It comes down to factors such as topography, mission, advanced agreements, and audience. I doubt that tomorrow's potential tyrants are any better at detecting non-RF communications than the decent people on both sides in the Revolutionary and (first) Civil Wars.

Dead drops and chalk marks may be more secure, but they are nowhere near as fast as prearranged optical signals. Both strategies have a place in the unlikely event that our country is taken over by communists/socialists/tyrants who have no respect for the Constitution or for human rights.

"That is CERTAIN"

Trust me I know this is true and you can take it to the bank or the grave, as you choose.

Now amount of spread-spectrum or encryption will save you.

Anywhere in the world, if they are looking...and you transmit more than a couple of minutes per hour...you are located, decoded and analyzed.

Not only to they know what you said, where you are etc...they will know everyone you have ever talked to, what was said and where every party was when the conversation took place.

Instantaneous AI will know whether you are Friend or Foe. Everyone you talk to too.

Use "code".

When talking about ammo, use "Elvis Presley" etc.

“That would be incorrect, people could and did write gold payment clauses into American contracts up until 1933.”

I didn’t think his statement rang true. Thx for the clarification.

“o would be tracked and probably considered a high priority among America’s enemies, particularly if the transmission seemed to be encoded or using unsociably short messages.”

Anyone suspected will end up in the prison/gulag rather quickly. So we’d need to be in proximity of each other. Hence our escape from Mexifornia to a conservative area shortly ;)

Here’s from an article about the Weimar Republic:

“As ever, gold and silver proved to be safe havens from the ravages of inflation. Indeed, anything other than the mark seemed to a good place to park one’s wealth. In those days, that could be anything from bedpans to US dollars to precious metals. However, depending on one’s accumulated wealth, gold and silver were amongst the top assets in terms of holding and transporting wealth.”. http://www.safehaven.com/article/5188/a-tale-from-weimar-germany

Many other sites have the same data, along with a crazy number of graphs and charts. Unless Ramsey thinks these graphs are made up, I don’t know how he comes to his conclusions. Except perhaps he was just saying people didn’t regularly trade with gold and silver for daily transactions. The implication I got, though, was not to invest in PMs if hyperinflation is what you’re concerned about.

I’m a former Navy EW and I love my CB. I recommend all patriots get one and, as you instructed, learn to practice EMCON (Emissions Control) to avoid being DFed and located.

Hasn't that already happened? Who in this Administration respects the constitution? Seems to me that plenty are also liberal/socialist communist sympathizers. It sure seems like we are there-it can and probably will get worse.

Hyperinflation occurs when the price of goods goes up super fast. In one of the articles I read,(I think it was Argentina)the inflation was going so fast that the price would change before you could take it to the front to pay for it.

I do recall several decades back, seeing news reports about people buying anything and everything they could find still in the stores just to get rid of the fiat currency.

It’s true that faith plays a part in a person’s willingness to hold onto paper currency, but that is not hyperinflation per se.

Some people define hyperinflation as being double digit inflation. While a rate of 10% or more inflation is a distinct economic problem, that is not what I think of as hyperinflation. In fact, there is no definition of what exact percentage fits that definition.

The explanation below is pretty good, I think, and also kinda explains a bit more about how faith in a currency plays into the equation:

“Investopedia explains ‘Hyperinflation’

When associated with depressions, hyperinflation often occurs when there is a large increase in the money supply not supported by gross domestic product (GDP) growth, resulting in an imbalance in the supply and demand for the money. Left unchecked this causes prices to increase, as the currency loses its value.

When associated with wars, hyperinflation often occurs when there is a loss of confidence in a currency’s ability to maintain its value in the aftermath. Because of this, sellers demand a risk premium to accept the currency, and they do this by raising their prices.

One of the most famous examples of hyperinflation occurred in Germany between January 1922 and November 1923. By some estimates, the average price level increased by a factor of 20 billion, doubling every 28 hours.”

I have the Sony short wave receiver he mentions. I did research on that and the Sony was the one I thought was the best. I’ll be able to get information by short wave with this Sony if all other communication is stopped by our freaking jerko-president.

But, we could use FR code talkers with their beebers and stuners.

He said hyperinflation occurs when people’s distrust of the currency happens.

He's actually right. If you didn't trust the currency, would you hedge your bets and raise prices, or just run along with the same prices?
