Sexual assault by law enforcement has been a problem in Oklahoma of late, with three different officers being arrested recently for on-duty sexual misconduct. Oklahoma women are understandably a bit anxious about the threat of being mistreated during a traffic stop, but Captain George Brown of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a helpful tip for anyone whos worried: If you just follow the law in the first place so you dont get pulled over, you have nothing to worry about! Thats awesome to know, because Im pretty sure no one has ever been pulled over for a tail light thats out or a routine drunk-driving check. Or for no reason at all. But why dig into the root of the problem when we can issue inane advice about how women shouldnt have gotten themselves into the situation in the first place?
Browns alleged advice to Oklahoma women is quoted by an anchor during local news station KJRHs coverage of the most recent arrest, and his words of unwisdom follow closely on the heels of but what was she wearing? and maybe women just shouldnt drink in public or theyre just asking for something bad to happen in terms of victim-blaming for sexual assault. Just follow the law and youre safe from police rape (unless you arent), and if you did break the law, I guess having a cop force you into the back of his patrol car is just what you should have expected! I cant imagine his advice to just not get pulled over was well received by the dozen-plus victims assaulted and mistreated by the three officers arrested in the past month. Sorry, ladies, if you just hadnt been speeding then maybe this wouldnt have happened to you.
While teaching news viewers what they are supposed to be doing to avoid having a police officer rub his dick on their face, Brown doesnt mention what sorts of efforts, if any, are underway to teach police officers about the role they might, perhaps, be able to play in keeping themselves from raping someone. Ive taken the liberty of compiling a list of tips of my own for any law enforcement officials who are worried that they might perhaps get into some hot water one day for sexually assaulting, molesting, or otherwise harassing citizens while on duty:
1. You probably shouldnt be a police officer if this is something you find yourself thinking about a lot.
2. You probably shouldnt even be a citizen. Consider leaving polite society and becoming a hermit, where the possibility that you will rape someone during a traffic stop is approximately zero.
3. If you must be a police officer, just dont pull people over.
4. If you must pull someone over, dont rape them. This is not difficult. Billions of people manage to interact with each other every day without raping one another. You can do it, too.
I dont expect my helpful rape prevention tips to get a lot of traction in Oklahoma, where a fundraising campaign for one of the arrested officers made $7,000 before getting shut down by undoubtedly horrified GoFundMe admins, and where Browns victim-blaming advice was cheerfully received and parroted by the local news anchor. But just dont get yourself into the situation is too often the advice on preventing rape. Its time to change the conversation.

Regrettably, what I have found is a huge edifice dedicated to violating the fundamental Law of the Land ... just as bad, have found common criminals among the ranks of public servants.
Some people seem unwilling to admit that in some cases, public servants ARE criminals. They prefer instead to dodge, obfuscate, and hurl accusations.
They're part of the problem.
so in your opinion arresting the offenders is offensive? LOL ... those that violated the trust were arrested.
They will just shoot you in your car like that lady in DC...

So, you’ll stand with the family member cop over the criminal EVERY time even if evidence shows the cop was wrong? Or are you saying you’ll take the cop’s word for it until evidence proves otherwise? What if it’s a family member claiming she was raped by a cop? Personally I believe the cop is just as probable to be the one who broke the law as the perp.
I’ve been a cop and I’ve had cops in my family. None of them cared about rights. They were always right. I quit being a cop when I saw every cop on the force denying people their rights. I wasn’t going to be another “Serpico”. So, I have experience with three different law enforcement agencies, two city and one county.
Personally, I’m a black and white kind of guy. If my son were to commit a crime I’d say “Give him the same punishment everyone else gets.”
I can’t stand it when I see mommies of serial killers say “He’s a good boy.” No, he’s not. He’s a serial killer!
you don’t read well, I see. The Police took down the offenders that were in the Police Force. Is that not a Good Thing?
[ But this behavior must and can be dealt with, without blaming all members of LE. ]
I find it ironic that a lot of policy for citizens is written to stop everyone from doing something if only even a small percentage break the law while doing that something.
Laws must be consistently applied across the citizenry and extra scrutiny placed on the enforcers of such laws.
Right now we are in a tyranny of selective enforcement...
Not exactly ... Have always said for over twenty years ... It will all depend on where our Military Stands and whom they will stand with.
A little investigation reveals the cop probably didn’t make the statement. This was put out by an Occupy site. We get enough true stories about Police idiocy to not need a made up one. But why ruin a good rant?
One must wonder what his/her response would be if the victims in question were armed and shot the attacking officers.
Note how, even now, he/she uses linguistic gymnastics to avoid referring to the attackers as police officers. He/she can’t handle the truth.
The department sent out the “tips” to the station.
Thus, the department can be held responsible for including victim-blaming in their dips.
yep, shoot all officers ... That’s the ticket. LOL
Are you serious? WOW!
Source?
How stupid is this man?
“He/she cant handle the truth.”
I disagree, he’s trying to cover up the truth. Its all part of siding with law enforcement EVERY single time.
I understand. Forgive them. I do. May your end of each day for those you provide protection, To Serve and Protect, may you each return home safe to your loved ones! In Jesus Name is prayed ... Amen.
But let’s face it, once a cop rapes someone then he’s just another criminal.
yep, if a police officer does commit a crime then that one is no longer a police officer if LE does their duty ... and never said anything different. May LE always do their duty and do what is right. They will fail though. We all fail.
You forgot the part about many successful rapes.
you forgot too ... but your reading skills are lacking ... so what could I say to make you change your mind? Probably nothing ...
