WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KFDX) Weve heard about homeowners in Texas using guns to defend their property from intruders, but we dont typically hear about people using medieval castle-like weapons to defend their home.
That was the case in Wichita Falls this week, where police arrested an accused crook after a homeowner stabbed him with a spear. According to KFDX-TV, it all started late Tuesday night when Wichita Falls police tried to pull over Thomas McGowan because the car he was driving had been reported stolen. McGowan took off and led police on a chase.
Several minutes later, authorities received a call from Jimmy Morgan Jr. saying someone had broken into his home and he had stabbed the intruder with a spear. Police believe the intruder was Thomas McGowan.
I dont have a firearm, so I have a short spear, very quick, very agile and very deadly, Morgan told the NBC affiliate.
Morgan told officers he felt threatened when the intruder entered his home, so he grabbed the spear near his bed and stabbed McGowan once.
So I hit him, and so he started retreating and I started advancing, Morgan recalled. And I was stalking him here you never cross your legs. And I cornered him right here.
The door was locked and shut, the homeowner said. He was panicked at this point. He said I cant get out, I cant get out.'
I do a hobby. Its called the SCA, Morgan explained. Its medieval fighting, and we do use spears and swords and things of that nature.
Officers were able to locate Thomas McGowan nearby a short time later. He was treated at a local hospital before being booked into the Wichita County Jail. The 25-year-old is charged with evading arrest with a vehicle, criminal trespass of a habitation and driving while intoxicated.
I am a Christian man and I dont want to take life, Morgan said. However, I want to make sure that he understands that his life was mine to take and I let him have it.
Through their investigation, Wichita Falls police learned the car driven by McGowan was actually his. He had previously reported the car stolen but did not alert the department once it was recovered.
Ain’t it the truth! I’ll bet that guy NEVER tries to break in to another home! LOL!
His worst nightmare just came true!
Yes, a great film.
The blueray of the extended version is awesome.

Makes me ASHAMED to be a Texan - the idea that even one of us DOESN’T have a firearm. Our schools have failed us. It’s time to rise up and NEVER let this happen again.
Kinda reminds me of the film version of MASH...
The big football game...
The brought in a ringer named Dr. “Spear Chucker” Jones...
This is actually the first thing that popped into my deranged mind when I read the story...
Don’t mess with Texans!!
Exactly! :)
LOL! I had forgotten about him!
Another of obama’s sons.
You could go with a Japanese Naginata
Alternately, you could cut a few grooves near the blade end of the spear shaft, and insert razor blades to give a surprise to anybody trying to grab the spear. (alternately, pound in nails and use a dremel tool to sharpen the ends that now stick out.
I wuz thinking a Hattori Hanzo sword would be nice...;-)
I’ve seen some knockoff, wannabe types out there...The real deal would be kinda neat, but I don’t have a million bucks...
You got one of those three-foot "snubbies" with a compact atl-atl? They'll take those away from you. Those come with a silencer, factory stock.
.........well, mine is suppose to be legal! Bought it from a Gunshop not in an alley..................
Hell breathing will soon be illegal if we don’t get these guys outta there!
I guess he “went Mid-evil on his ass.” ;)
