On Friday, we, like many others, published photos of thousands of people standing in line to buy the new iPhone, the iPhone 6.
Most people think of these lines as being filled with crazed fanboys who just can't wait to get their hands on the latest product from Apple. However, filmmaker Casey Neistat (via Re/code) created a six-minute video that shows there is a dark, disturbing side to these lines.
The lines are not filled only with crazed fanboys. Neistat shows that the lines are filled with people waiting for days to buy an iPhone 6, only to flip it as soon as they leave the store. On YouTube, he says "this entire experience was disheartening."
We have the full video below, here's a quick rundown of what you'll see:

These people have no lives. Pathetic.
The Phone doesn’t interest me in the least.
Were they the same ones that assembled the phones?
Depends on how much they make on the flip.

Hmm. The day all of these people were sleeping in line (launch day), I returned from lunch to find an iPhone 6 shipped from FedEx sitting on my desk.
does not apple PAY for people to cheer and wait in their lines? (ala ancient romans)
It is PR astroturf and tantamount to false advertising.
Even OTHER companies are now paying people to stand in line with their company logos. Not to buy the phone but just to have free PR.
That’s what I was thinking. If I can make a couple hundred bucks for sitting in line for 12 hours or so, that’s not a bad profit.
What is wrong with folks selling their time to wait in line to those that would rather pay more and not wait?
I don't see anything disheartening about it. I don't see anything to complain about.
This behavior has been found to be caused by caused by a previously undiscovered pathological ailment called “Appeldopholis Snuffilupigus” which is apparently brought on by too much contact with Apple products.
Phone retailers in the Mongkok district said the price premium for the gold iPhone 6 Plus with the most storage had jumped to more than $1,000. "Asian customers love using large-screen phones to watch video and play games," said Lo Lau, an owner of a smartphone store in Mongkok.Jay Lam, a Hong Kong shop manager, left the Apple store in the Causeway Bay neighborhood with a big smile and two gold iPhone 6 Pluses. Mr. Lam said he planned to sell each phone for 20,000 Hong Kong dollars (US$2,600), a handsome profit from the official retail price of HK$8,088.
Yeah, I’ve always thought it was idiotic till now.
Now I’m wondering if I shouldn’t plan to do the same.
LOL
Maybe they have no jobs and are flipping phones to make some extra money. Of course I’m sure there are many in line who are using their EBT money to pay for a new phone. Nice of we taxpayers to buy one for them to go along with their Air Jordan shoes!
When I used to work security for races at MIS I always sold the free hats they gave us. I had guys pay me as much as $50 for the free hat they gave me.
Limited supply collector’s item.
I think it is more likely days rather than hours for those multi-hundred $$$ payments.
In Houston we had a story of a near riot where folks set up a tent as part of their place in line, not that uncommon. The right came when folks discovered the places were held by mannequins inside the tent, rather than people. Their gear got trashed and thrown to the side.
