Those little blue microbeads in your Crest toothpaste may be getting stuck in your teeth and gums, prompting dentists to ask toothpaste manufacturers for a change.
The tiny scrubbers contain the ingredient polyethylene, a form of plastic that does not degrade and can stay embedded in your mouth.
Your body will see them as a foreign body, bacteria will clamp to them and it has the potential to cause gum disease, some form of gingivitis or harm to it, Dr. Wade Pilling of Meridien, Indiana told KTVB.

I haven’t tried that one. Will give it a go. Thanks!
Oops. I mean a Sonicare.

Okay, I’ll give that one a go, too. Thanks for the suggestion!
If it has a very small brush head, it might work well. The last time I used one, I suffered dizzy spells that didn’t go away until I stopped using it. The brush was probably too large. Thanks!
Well, I have small fingers, too... so, yep! :-)
I brush my teeth with baking soda, toothpaste irritates my mouth.
I used these before too.

Try 3% H202. It beats baking soda by at least a mile or three.
What do the microbeads do?
How ‘bout a toothbrush that fits in the bathroom toothbrush holder! I don’t need those oversized handles to brush my teeth!
I like peroxide, too. The dentist asked me to use peroxide after some dental work, and then used Peroxyl when I had a mouth/gum problem. Peroxide works great on teeth!
You trade them to 10 Little Indians for Rhode Island.
They all look like athletic shoes to me.
Never have used Peroxyl, but only hydrogen peroxide. Beats back periodontal disease quite well.
I’m a dental hygienist. Don’t use hard toothbrushes. Don’t use Ultrabrite. Don’t use stuff with microbeads or triclosan in it. If you use peroxide too frequently, you run the risk of developing an oral yeast infection and black, hairy tongue. Plaque is a soft, sticky, biofilm of bacteria. You need to brush and floss every day. The plaque reforms everyday. P.S. Don’t use Comet or Ajax on your teeth. You’ll get a nasty chemical burn and possibly poison yourself. Oh, yeah...go and get your teeth professionally at least twice a year. We clean off the mineral deposits (calculus) and stain that does NOT come off with normal brushing and flossing.
“Anyone know of a good, old-fashion toothbrush?”
I like Oral B, soft bristle.
Errrg!!!
A couple of months ago we switched to Crest Complete. It took some time (which is why I didn’t make the link) but, after about three weeks, I came down with the worst case of gingivitis that I’ve ever had in my life. Over the next three weeks, my mouth fell apart. Ulcers, sheets of skin peeling off the inside of my cheeks, my lips swelling and cankers everywhere.
I finally made the link with the toothpaste and threw it away. Within a few days, the improvement was tremendous. But, after two weeks with baking soda, peroxide, salt water, etc, the gums around four teeth that won’t heal. As of yesterday, I noticed that I actually have a loose tooth. Dentist next week.
My daughter has also been using Crest Complete. She called me a few days ago, complaining that her gums hurt and were bleeding like hell whenever she brushed or flossed. I told her to trash the toothpaste. She’s already feeling better.
I’m going to stick with the cheap stuff from now on.
Thank you, Rembrandt! I’ll check them out.
Ever wonder why they put glycerine, fluoride and sugar together in toothpaste? And why people still get cavities? Mystery to me!
So what do you recommend — as toothpaste?
