America’s Most Popular Pastor Doesn’t Know The Bible
The Daily Caller ^ | 9-19-2014 | Tristyn Bloom

Mega-church pastor Joel Osteen may lead the largest Protestant church in the United States, but a recent Facebook post shows he might need to go back to Sunday school.

A Monday post to his verified Facebook page, Joel Osteen ministries, read: “God said in Numbers 11:23, ‘Moses, is there any limit to My power?’ He was saying, ‘Moses, you saw Me part the Red Sea, stop the sun for Joshua, keep three Hebrew teenagers safe in a fiery furnace, don’t you realize that I can bring water without rain?’ There’s no limit to God’s power.”

Post by Joel Osteen Ministries.

As of Friday afternoon, the post had over 317,000 likes and 52,000 shares.

There’s just one problem: According to the Bible, Moses was dead before Joshua asked God to stop the setting of the sun, and long before the three Hebrew youths were burned in the furnace.

The Old Testament Book of Joshua explains that God appointed Joshua as Moses’s successor after Moses’s death (the first sentence literally begins, “After the death of Moses…”), who led the Israelites into battle against the Amorites, during which he commanded the sun and the moon not to move. “So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies,” (Joshua 10:13).

The story of the “three holy children,” as the Hebrew youths are sometimes known, is told in the Old Testament Book of Daniel. According to the passage, the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar, who reigned around the 6th century B.C. (long, long after the projected time of Moses), ordered his people to worship a large golden idol, “and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace,” (Daniel 3:6). The three Hebrew youths refused to worship the idol and were thrown into the furnace, but were not burned.

In many Christian traditions this passage is particularly important because it is understood to prefigure Christ — when the king asked whether the three were burned, one of his counselors replied “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God,” (Daniel 3:25).

Some of Osteen’s followers noticed the error, with one commenter asking “Bro, do you even Scripture?”

Osteen, who has neither a bachelor’s nor a divinity degree, lives in a $10 million dollar mansion in Houston, Texas, and has an estimated net worth of $40 million. Nearly 50,000 people attend services at Lakewood Church every week, and millions more watch his televised sermons. Lakewood, whose “central campus” is a 16,000-seat arena, is notable for its total lack of crosses and other Christian symbols or imagery.

Numbers 11:23, and the LORD said to Moses, “is the LORD’s hand shortened? Now you shall see whether my word will come true for you or not. (ESV)

This passage comes from when the Israelites were complaining that they wanted meat to eat, and God gave it to them for a whole month, quail...they got sick of it. God said that He would give them so much meat that they would not want any more.

God was just saying .. look at these other events and see what I did for them, and that I’m willing to help you too.

Amen CyberAnt.

I'm sorry to hear about the losses in your family. Somehow, if we stay in faith and his peace, as Joel and Joseph Price constantly encourage and exhort, we come out better than we were before because this has also happened to me.

God bless.

LOL. Actually, the late Reggie White of Green Bay Packer fame (aka, “the Minister of Defense”), was one heck of a pastor.

K.J.V. says, until it comes out their noses. I like that better.

That’s Aaron Rodgers. His father is a chiropractor.

Pretty sure it's the same guy. It even says "Rodgers" on the back of his shirt.

the FR way. You find a mistake ... Point it out ... Ridicule him ... And then feel good about just how much better you are than him

Gets tiresome and boring doesn't it?

Couldn't find any pictures of Reggie but I think this is his sister.

I think Joel Osteen said Numbers 11:23, he didn't say the verse word for word, but mentioned other related occurrences. Oh he has a Gulfstream 650, just kidding, no he don't. He has $40 million house, may not be his but it's pastoral house.

you want a pastor that will lead you to Christ and lead you to eternal life

Before joining these condemning folks in this heinous character assaination and accusations hurled at Joel like the rocks the Pharisees of old threw, maybe you should do a little checking first because your comments make it pretty obvious you haven't done that.

Did you know you can watch the whole Lakewood service streaming live online Saturday nights and Sunday mornings? You would find out, among other things, that THREE TIMES PER SERVICE, Joel prays the prayer with those who want to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

that is Vanna White. She is his sister from another mother. But wait Reggie White was black. It was sad when he died because of Obstructive sleep apnea

You know, I had never even heard of the guy until about four weeks ago when I started seeing an increase in this type of post on FR. I even had to ask someone who he was and a number of people were flabbergasted I didn't know.

I've been looking at these threads just to kind of watch the piling on that takes place. I've never seen his ministry or television or anything and I'm not inclined to as I'm quite involved in my own church.

But I guess, if the guy is an apostate or something, why not just ignore him? What's the fascination with all the posts about him?

AMEN DITTOS!

My family had been in dire financial straits along with other problems. We were losing our home because of taxes and maintenence on a hundred year old building.

I ignored the Guidance of The Lord...wanted to stay in my family’s home thinking our kids needed to grow up in the same community as me and mrs p6.

I thought I knew better.

After decades of resisting The Lord we gave up.

We put ourselves in The Lords Hands.

We did lose the house BUT it was an OLD house that was draining our resources. We stayed until all the kids graduated. At that point we started looking for another home.

We wanted to be close to our kids and miraculously a place became available only a few blocks away. It was an apartment but bigger and way newer than our old house. It had more space, a better kitchen, and even an integral garage and space for a workshop.

Oh and the neighbors are much more like us!

The cost is LESS than paying the taxes on the old house...WAY LESS.

Financially we actually made out on the deal.

We moved 5 years ago and never looked back. We are much better off, happier, and can do things we never dreamed possible.

Our kids and grand kids are within walking distance. Our bills are a fraction of what there were.

Our prayers were answered.

THANK YOU LORD!

We -— I -— should have listened long ago.

Character Assassination - not a chance. Joel Osteen is free to be criticized. Just because he leads many to Christ does not make him exempt. Which Christ is he leading them to? The apostle Paul wrote that many lead to something other than Christ crucified. Joel’s christ is money. His style of leadership some question as a false preacher whom leads some astray. But I know I will get criticized by some that Joel Osteen is a false preacher

I’ve tried several times to watch Joel but I have a hard time connecting to his feel good messages. I rarely see him refer to his Bible (what ever version it is). But if he is an ordained pastor and I assume him to be he should know his Bible and speak as a mouthpiece for God not himself. There are plenty of wolf’s in Sheep’s clothing doing the work of Satan from the Pulpit.
