I haven't worn a wristwatch in maybe 20 years, possibly even back to the late 1980s. Always had to wear a pager, was on-call 24/7, and it displayed the time. Then later on a cellphone was mandatory. I have some nice dress watches from the 1970s, cost big bucks. People back then thought nothing of dropping $500 to $1000 on a wristwatch that did nothing but display time - and that was 1970s money. These watches from Apple at $349 seem very inexpensive for what they offer. But I'll pass on them. I suspect they'll sell millions of them, so it won't be a flop. They'll have a niche market with fitness buffs.
That $349 Apple Watch price is for the low end starting price with rubberized straps. There are premium Apple Watches that come in 18k gold that uses an alloy that according to Apple is "twice as hard as ordinary 18k gold," that I suspect will be upwards of a couple grand. Those appeared to be available in white, yellow, and rose gold.
I currently wear a Stührling meteorite dial Turbillon mechanical watch in Rose Gold with a deployant clasp black Alligator leather band that set me back over $2500. It just tells time. . . not even a date. But it's a great piece of jewelry that goes well with my large black diamond and rose gold commitment ring I wear for my relationship with my girlfriend. I like the looks of the Apple Watch in rose gold with the magnetic quilted black leather. I may switch to the Apple Watch and keep the Stührling for dress.
I’ve never understood ‘fitness buffs’. If you’re fat, just accept it. Some people are just BIG. Some are skinny. No sense in fighting it.
I’ve never been overweight, and I believe the only time I should run is when my life - the live of someone I care about is in danger. Not something I would do for amusement or fun. lol
I have a collection of watches, it’s the only jewelry I wear. I feel naked without wearing one. The Apple Watch sounds as if it will have some interesting and useful features. I have an iPhone. But, I’ll have to see this thing in person, not sure about it. I’m an Apple guy from way back, so I’m not opposed, I just don’t yet grasp the reason to shell out another $500 or more. Time will tell I guess, lol.
