This Steampunkish Nazi Belt Buckle Pistol Packs A Deadly Surprise
The Nazis had some pretty wild engineering ideas, and some of them, like the jet engine, ended up being a vision of things to come. Yet others were just over-engineered, strange, and in some cases, downright creepy. This steampunkish Nazi belt buckle four-shooter is one of those things.
The whole idea was to give high-ranking Nazis a way to kill their captors should they be captured on the battlefield. The concept was said to have originated from known German inventor, Louis Marquis, who designed the contraption while he was held as a prisoner of war during WWI.
In operation, the buckle flipped open, where its four barrels would be rotated out, and each .22 cartridge would be fired using spring loaded trigger mechanisms on the opposite side from the barrels. Was it all a bit phallic? Yep.
Strange as they were, these Nazi crotch shooters were intricately built and had a high degree of craftsmanship. and some were incredibly embellished. It is said that they were ordered by Heinrich Himmler to be given to his inner circle, which makes them even creepier.

Let’s not forget the crotch pistol at the vampire bar in the movie Dusk to Dawn!
I agree. The workmanship leaves quite a bit to be desired and the screws ruin the finished look and the clunky eagle fixture is oversized. The post-war period was awash in “Nazi” relics most of which never would have never made the grade during the Reich period. Here is a classic example of this kind of crap: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=german+ss+nazi+paratrooper+knife&qpvt=German+SS+Nazi+Paratrooper+Knife&FORM=IGRE
I would say this is closer to the work of a reasonably competent amateur with a Nazi fetish.
Louis Marquis? German? I don't think so. He may have worked for them but he was not German.
I remember a toy gun belt buckle from the 1950s.
Paladin’s derringer was behind the belt buckle.
Yancy Derringer had guns hidden every every where, including his hat.
I had one.
I’ve seen another somewhere on the internet with 2 barrels that is similar, but also more believable - a bit cruder and smaller. Also to me (and you) the eagle looks unlike any other German eagle. If you search images of German buckles, none of the decoration looks anything like this one. I’m far from an expert, but you would think the documentation would trace it back to at least the 1940s. Some people love to fake this stuff, and it is easy to fake because who knows what it should look like, right?

Hat carry/concealment rigs are still available. Wind doesn’t bother them so much either......
A word that has no relation to nazi era stuff, but obviously the author is smitten enough with it that he had to throw it in.
It (Steam punk) is kind of geek version of Victorian era stuff, contraptions and wear with a sort of rube goldberg touch and lots of iron, brass, copper and leather.
The photo showing the mechinisms reminds me a bit of steampunk and the “rube goldberg” aspect of it.
The rock group Rush with their latest album (Clockwork Angels) went the entire Steampunk route in telling the tale. Flying machines powered by steam, etc. Creative set designs for their concerts. (And lots of fire).
Damn, they’ve always been a favorite of mine, I might have to check that out!

from their Clockwork Angels tour. It always takes me a few times to get used to any new album they come out with. This was no different. (Live sound not the greatest - but what a show.)
