NEW YORK (AP) Police handcuffed dozens of protesters in cities around the country on Thursday as they blocked traffic in the latest attempt to escalate their efforts to get McDonald's, Burger King and other fast-food companies to pay their employees at least $15 an hour.
The protests, which were planned by labor organizers for about 150 cities nationwide throughout Thursday, are part of a campaign called "Fight for $15."

MacDonald's will go to more mechanized service - as MacDonald's is doing in France - orders are now taken by an ATM-type machine:
Self-service seems to be popping up all over - supermarkets, large hardware stores and, of course, gas stations.

Fortunately for McDonalds workers, our public education system has dumbed-down the average customer to the point where he likely can’t use a self-service kiosk.

McDonald’s, Burger King, Starbucks and most other fast food joints other than Chick-Fil-A have nothing I want. I don’t like risking my hamburgers being spat on or masturbated on by low-life workers, and there are plenty of news stories documenting this behavior. Any place that has counter help who speak little or no English automatically loses my business.

machines can replace many agricultural workers
Already happened. That’s why you don’t see blacks and poor whites picking cotton. Once they were replaced by machines the government started handing out checks.

Since you and I are in the same part of the world, I'll give credit to NTTA for eradicating the manned toll booths. They were largely populated by stinky third world types who spoke any language bit English. I can now effortlessly and efficiently zip about town on the PGBT, SRT, DNT and I-635 (which I refuse to call LBJ).
Out of towners can look up the abbreviations! :)

I agree with you. My personal choice is not to trade at these places and I'm guessing many more people are going to do the same. What the protesters don't realize is that their gibsmedat antics are only serving to hasten the demise of their jobs. Not just impending automation, but many people are going to think twice about patronizing fast food joints staffed by a bunch of angry, jealousy-minded freaks like the, uh, person, below. Do you want that making your burger next week after these protests fail spectacularly?

Bingo!
The NY soda ban would have been repealed in a NY minute if NYers had boycotted sodas in protest.

The machines are clean, efficient and not malodorous unlike the majority of the low-life scum they replace.
The checkout cashiers at our local Walmart don't smell bad and I wouldn't refer to them as low life scum. Been shopping there for years and they are very pleasant folks. Lighten up.

Been shopping there for years and they are very pleasant folks. That's your experience and I presume you're in a nice area. Here in Texas, the few remaining manned registers at Walmart are staffed by illegals and third world types. They are low-life scum and they emit body odors of the highly offensive sort. I'll admit that the people working at Chik-fil-a are of a better sort.

“The problem would take care of itself if US workers didn’t have to compete with invaders. If low-income workers had any brains, they’d be protesting having to compete with unnecessary foreign labor. “
And that’s the name of that tune.

How many of them actually work at a fast food restaurant?

Aside from the notable exception of Chik-fil-a, the looks of those protesting are very typical of what I find in the fast food places in Texas. I honestly can’t remember the last time I encountered an employee who spoke fluent English. Their native tongue is either Spanish of ebonics. Most of them seem to have come from straight across the Rio Grande or from the ghetto. When automation replaces the low-lifes, I’ll probably be a more frequent patron of fast food establishments.
