Results show an increase in heat sinking around 1999, when the rapid warming of the 20th century stopped.
"There are recurrent cycles that are salinity-driven that can store heat deep in the Atlantic and Southern oceans," Tung said.
When observations show the ocean cycle flipped, in about 2000, the current began to draw heat deeper into the ocean, working to counteract human-driven warming.
The cycle starts when saltier, denser water at the surface northern part of the Atlantic, near Iceland, causes the water to sink.
This changes the speed of the huge current in the Atlantic Ocean that circulates heat throughout the planet.
Changes in Atlantic Ocean circulation historically meant roughly 30 warmer years followed by 30 cooler years. Now that it is happening on top of global warming, however, the trend looks more like a staircase, researchers said.
This explanation implies that the current slowdown in global warming could last for another decade, or longer, and then rapid warming will return, they said.
The study was published in the journal Science.

Is there not something in there that says that warm will go to cold, evening out the temperatures, and that salinity trapping heat and isolating it from the rest of the universe is hogwash?

Our science has come to the same cause and effect observations as when throwing virgins into volcanoes made sense.
I was watching a presentation on what killed Neanderthals. It said that starting 40,000 years ago the weather changed drastically up in temperature and then drastically down again, not in centuries but in tens of years. This killed off the Neanderthal’s food supply. They needed dense forest since they were ambush hunters and the changes killed the forest.
The point is that 40,000 years ago, a mere cosmic blink, that the weather cycled rapidly into and out of an ice age, not once, but several times. This may have been caused by volcanoes, meteor strikes, changes in deep ocean currents or a combination of those. But all those changes happened when humans could not have had any impact on them. There is still no evidence we’re impacting the climate or that so-called greenhouse gases do the things we thought they would.
Will it rain on Thursday, and if it rains...was it caused by nature or by man’s reckless lifestyle?

It’s not ‘global warming’... It’s ‘climate change’, so as long as the climate changes and it does that pretty much every day, then Al Gore is always right and his minions and worshipers can claim victory regardless of the weather conditions. So his incredulous assertions remain very credulous in their feeble minds and they refuse to accept the obvious truth. Climate change science is a crock of you know what!

And therein lies the fundamental flaw in the global warming models. Note the word "flipped". That means that the heat had been coming out, and it's flipped to going in. It's been known for decades that there are ocean cycles with approximately 60 year periods that ebb and flow heat from the oceans. For 30 years the heat goes in, and for 30 years the heat comes out. Heat "going in" now explains heat coming out 30 years ago.
The problem for the global warming cult is that if they include these cycles in their models, catastrophe goes away. We simply have a nearly endless cycle of "climate change" that has waxed and waned for millennia. There is no doubt that if heat going into the ocean today is the cause of the "hiatus", it can also be used to explain the moderate warming of the 90's. Viola, no CAGW (Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming)!
