Ed Nelson, a prolific actor who became a familiar face to American television audiences over 40 years, notably as a star of the prime-time soap opera "Peyton Place," died on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. He was 85.
Asta Hansen, a daughter-in-law, confirmed the death.
Handsome at six feet tall, Mr. Nelson had a prominent role on "Peyton Place" as Michael Rossi, a New York doctor who sets up practice in the fictional town of the shows title and is quickly caught up in its romantic intrigues. The show, which ran from 1964 to 1969 on ABC, was widely regarded as the first prime-time soap opera, though it was filmed rather than taped, as most daytime soaps were.

There’s #3.
Dispute!! He is so third tier. Can we have a judge on this?
Any guy that has been married since 1950 is 1st tier in my book.
RIP sir.
.
Yep, I see people are doing the celebrity deaths in threes thing again. Robin Williams, Lauren Bacall, and Michael Rossi.
Many younger people have no idea who Lauren Bacall and Michael Rossi are, however. So does the rule of threes count if large numbers of people don’t know who these famous people are???
Should. Most people don’t know who there Senator is, but they pull the lever for them anyway.
My bad. I meant to say, many people don’t know who Ed Nelson is, not the Michael Rossi character he played the part of.
Some here claim robin Williams to be third tier.
Beat me to it...
By the end of his career he was heading in that direction
Ed Nelson and Lauren Bacall were both in the same Rockford Files 2-part episode (Lions Tigers Monkeys Dogs).
Well now there's a 4th with the girl from Star Trek. Now What?
“married since 1950”
Ironic considering the theme of Peyton Place.
Why was Mr. Nelson in Greensboro; he lived in Louisiana.
R.I.P. Ed Nelson. Condolences to his family and friends.
love
RIP.
Yeah, I’d heard he’d moved to Monroe, after the hurricane hit New Orleans.
EXTREMELY prolific tv actor. He must have appeared in every old series imaginable. Watched him just the other day in an episode of “The FBI.” Also, not too longer ago, I caught a glimpse of him as an extra (a guy just waiting in a line at the airport) in the 1952 film “The Steel Trap,” which was filmed, partially, there in his hometown of New Orleans.
Wow! They’re going to be going into overtime with the memoriam segment at the next Academy Awards ceremony.
I did a search on Michael Rossi and came up with this:
Michael Rossi Plumbing, Inc. is a premier plumbing contractor located in Santa Monica.
My condolences to you about your plumber. A good one is hard to find. : )
