RIP Robin Williams.

So only politician’s death should be front page news then eh?

It’s more a function of level of celebrity, age and the relative surprise of the death. Now whether conservative celebs fail to achieve a certain level of celebrity for political reasons is another matter...
It is revealing that you have shown zero interest in learning what happened to news coverage and the creation of the cult of celebrity in America, zero, this America suits you.
Your divination leaves a lot to be desired. This thread has nothing to do with any of those things. If you want to start a vanity thread about it I’ll be glad to participate (and agree in principal).
Ha!
Yeah my little celebrity obsessed lefty friend, bug-off, I had made my observation and then you came after me.

Another entertainers death that the media will make a national event.

See Post 26, my aspersion-casting One Note Sally thread hijacking friend.
Welcome to freerepublic, a conservative political site where you post your hero worship of lefty celebrities.
LOL!
There are threads about this event ALL OVER this site. You really shouldn’t spend so much time on just this one thread. Surely the other Robin Williams threads could use some of your outrage?
The cult of celebrity goes back a lot further than you’re giving it credit. The cult of celebrity predates America, heck it predates Jesus. The most that’s really happened in America is that when we got more forms of mass communication and mass entertainment we created the bandwidth and opportunity to have more celebrities.
Some of those threads are about how you and the celebrity worshipers of the left are blowing this coverage out of proportion.
Since you started posting to me on this thread, and show no intention of letting up, you seem to be demonstrating a lot of outrage at my post #2.
I had polite question about your initial comment and the rest has been merely responding to your posts to me (and various aspersions). I have a mental image of you with a red face and smoke blowing out of your ears when you type.
” I regret that one of the things we lost after the 60s was a male dominated news industry, where news was geared to important male oriented issues.”

One of the most idiotic statements I’ve ever seen posted o FR.
.
I wonder if any of these pieces of shit people know the names of our dead Soldiers?
Before the 1970s it was easy for men to stay out of that world, because we lived for hard news, not Madonna and Mork and Mindy.
The left and feminists brought change to the news industry, the first thing was eliminating the “women’s section” of newspapers, and then practicing affirmative action to bring in young female writers and journalists for “human interest stories” and popular culture and celebrities, anything but dry long, pictureless articles on foreign affairs, weapons systems, military issues, and dry politics.
“”According to Carolyn Kitch, professor of journalism at Temple University, the first regular womans page in a major newspaper appeared in the 1890s, in the New York World. Womens pages quickly became staples of the newspapers, featuring society coverage, food and fashion, coverage of the burgeoning womens clubs and more. “”
“”But at the same time, while reserving a separate space for womens issues meant that things like parenting, fashion, and the beginnings of the feminist movement got column inches, the separation also demarcated the womens page as the site of less newsy content, a pink ghetto that still persists.””
You mean like when Charlie Beckwith dies, or a Carlos Hathcock, or a Col. Aaron Banks and such, compared to a Rosanne Barr.
or dead firemen or dead police...
The key distinction is that with them, the work they do is the product. With someone like Williams, the person IS the product.
It isn’t idiotic at all if you actually care about news.
Why do you think that those of us that devoured up to 5 newspapers a day have dropped our subscriptions over the decades, and have abandoned what had been great hard news magazines, and that network news became something for females to watch as they talked about health and celebrities and entertainment?
