The 13 Most Rabidly Leftist, Politically Correct Colleges For Dirty, Tree-Hugging Hippies
The Daily Caller ^ | 8-7-2014 | Eric Owens

Posted on 08/08/2014 4:28:30 AM PDT by servo1969

College campuses in America are frequently teeming with all manner of liberals and trustafarian socialists who drive Volvos . Some of these schools are worse than others. Some are just egregiously awful.

Here, The Daily Caller presents the 2014 rankings for the most annoying, rabidly politically correct, dirty-hippie, tree-hugging colleges and universities across the fruited plain.

You have been warned.

Swarthmore College in the suburbs of Philadelphia is a leftist hothouse full of wealthy white kids. In February, Swarthmore sophomore Erin Ching criticized her school for allowing a conservative — Christian thinker Robert George — to speak on campus. “What really bothered me is, the whole idea is that at a liberal arts college, we need to be hearing a diversity of opinion,” she whined — apparently without irony. In May 2013, globetrotting campus leftists pitched a fit about divesting the endowment from any company that profits from burning fossil fuels. Such a move would cost the college more than $200 million. Also, a male student who was expelled after a female student alleged that he raped her has filed a lawsuit claiming, among much else, that the woman invited him to dinner twice with her parents after the alleged rape occurred.

This spring, officials at Brandeis University, one of America’s foremost lairs of leftism, chose to take back an honorary degree it was going to bestow during its commencement ceremonies upon Ayaan Hirsi Ali, one of the planet’s greatest and bravest campaigners for women’s rights and a very vocal critic of Islam. Then, earlier this summer, a Brandeis student uncovered a huge listserv used by Brandeis professors containing several scary exchanges bashing conservatives, Jews, Christians, and basically anyone who views America as a force for good. In one email, comparative politics professor Donald Hindley peddles anti-Semitic libels and suggests that if he were to die, his organs would be taken by Israel and be “recycled as (non-Kosher, I hope but money does corrupt us all, as witness the Jewish Orthodox occupiers of Palestinian territory) sausages-frankfurters -weenies-erstwhile hot dogs.”

Otherwise an academic backwater not worth mentioning, San Francisco State University makes this list because it recently gave ethnic studies professor Rabab Abdulhadi $7,000 from state taxpayers to fly to the Middle East for meetings with celebrated terrorists. “Professor Abdulhadi’s academic work in race and resistance studies requires examination of some of the world’s most challenging and controversial issues,” explained school president Leslie Wong in defense of her employee, according to Palestine Solidarity Legal Support.

Occidental College, the mediocre private dump that President Barack Obama once attended (before wisely transferring to Columbia University), clearly wants to become America’s worst school. In the fall, a female student accused a now-expelled male student of rape after texting him “do you have a condom” and sending a smiley-face text to friends reading “I’mgoingtohave sex now” [sic]. The male student claims sociology professor Danielle Dirks later indicated that he “fit the profile of other rapists on campus in that he had a high GPA in high school, was his class valedictorian, was on [a sports] team, and was ‘from a good family.’” This winter, school officials meaninglessly pledged to avoid investing in manufacturers of military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines for sale to the unwashed masses — a move which changed Occidental’s stock portfolio exactly none. This spring, Occidental offered academic credit for a class on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Everyone knows that the University of California, Berkeley is a rightfully prestigious public research university located in America’s most perfectly hyper-liberal town. Long-known for student activism, the campus and the surrounding town are home to protests pretty much daily — usually involving a drum somehow. Among much else, Cal pays Robert Reich, a professor with a mere law degree who styles himself as an inequality-hating economist, $242,613 annually. Reich will teach one class this semester. In 2012, the student council resolved to ban Salvation Army bell ringers and their officious red kettles.

Notable alumnae of Smith College include Julie Nixon Eisenhower and Nancy Reagan. (Barbara Bush attended but did not graduate.) Of course, the hallowed all-female bastion in Northampton, Mass. also gave diplomas to famed radical feminists Gloria Steinem, Catharine MacKinnon and Betty Friedan. In 2005, students voted to remove gendered pronouns such as “she” and “her” from the school constitution to prevent various LGBQ students from feeling excluded. At the same time, the stuffy admissions office steadfastly refused to admit transgender applicant Calliope Wong just because of his apparent lack of a vagina.

Sarah Lawrence College, located in a fancypants enclave just north of New York City, annually clocks in as one of the most expensive schools—frequently the most expensive. The academic program is wholly unstructured. Students at this paradise for hipsters and freaky theater types can follow in the footsteps of Yoko Ono and the pirouettes of Rahm Emanuel, the foul-mouthed ballerino turned mayor of Chicago. Both honed their skills at SLC.

Bennington College resembles so many other tiny, costly liberal arts schools full of liberal white kids dotting the Northeast. Bennington distinguishes itself, however, by its complete isolation and the student body’s slavish devotion to left-wing causes and eccentricity for eccentricity’s sake. The major-less, requirement-free curriculum almost certainly helps in this regard. The location in some rural corner of Vermont definitely can’t hurt. It would be virtually impossible to be a conservative trapped for weeks with these people.

Wesleyan University has come a very long way since it was founded as an all-male Methodist college in 1831. These days, the Middletown, Conn. school is a haven for privileged, preppy New England kids bent on imposing liberal schemes on America when they have to get their first actual jobs and trade in the Volvo their parents gave them for a new Volvo. In 2012, PETA named Wesleyan the “most vegan-friendly” small college in America for its diverse vegan dishes, including dairy-free fettuccine alfredo and a vegan chocolate cake shaped like the Batmobile.

Founded in 1965 as an experiment in alternative education, small Hampshire College does not provide majors or grades. Notable traditions include Hampshire Halloween, an event so big and raucous that the entire campus closes down for it. Another name for the drug-infused bash is “Trip or Treat.” Past posters for the event have urged students to avoid costumes that could offend anyone at all. “Does my costume packaging include the words ‘traditional,’ ‘ethnic,’ ‘colonial,’ ‘cultural,’ ‘authentic,’ ‘or ‘tribal?’” a helpful flyer asked. Because, God knows, when you are tripping ecstasy, the last thing you want is to be wearing an offensive ensemble.

Evergreen State College in lush, rainy Olympia, Wash. rarely makes the news — unlike many other exceedingly liberal schools — and it’s frankly not very hard to get into. Consequently, it’s probably fair to say that Evergreen is quietly educating the next generation of slacker leftists. The taxpayer-funded college has no grades. Instead, professors write narrative evaluations of each student’s work. The school mascot is the Geoduck, the world’s largest burrowing clam. In 2012, officials at the school stood by by their decision to let a 45-year-old student with a penis use the women’s locker room, and walk naked in front of girls as young as six years old using the facility.

No list of fascist, liberal colleges would be remotely complete without Oberlin College, the school where Obama-loving leftist student Dylan Bleier and his sidekick Matt Alden allegedly circulated virulently racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages around campus “for the shock value,” according to Bleier. School president Marvin Krislov called off school for a day and made a huge fuss, despite apparently knowing full well it was all a hoax. The Oberlin administration then exploited the hoax to implement an aggressive leftist agenda on students, according to Legal Insurrection.

Bard College is a small school famous for liberal arts and fine arts in a gorgeous, rural region of upstate New York. Students tend to have been high school outcasts — mostly hippies, geeky fashion victims and people who listen to ultra-obscure indie music. “Bardstock,” “Coming Out Week” and, of course, leftist politics are all the rage.

I’m sure Berkeley, like most colleges, still has its share of dirty whiny hippies, but I think it’s on this list because of its history not because of current student radicalism. The best example of dirty hippies the guy could do was Robert Reich. College has gotten very expensive and upper middle class white kids (the ones who actually voted for Romney and to some degree Ron Paul) are attending Berkeley because it’s the most highly ranked school in the California state system. They’re working hard and many of them are probably playing quite hard but they’re definitely not dirty hippies.

I do not see Antioch on that list. Another Ohio haven for weird leftists.

Didn't Antioch go belly-up financially?

If I had only known there were colleges without requirements where I could’ve got a free ride with no grades to worry over... I could’ve had a doctorate by now! Just imagine it - Dr. ‘Krag from Hampshire College majoring in economics. Of course, the joke would be on them: I’d land a career with the Ayn Rand Institute, where I’d spend my days mocking them.

ABAC (Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College) here in GA is stellar, affordable as colleges go, and mostly Conservative Christian in makeup.

I always put Antioch near or at the top of these lists too, although Leftism has infested its standards so much that perhaps no one considers it a university anymore.

Bookmark.

My stepdaughter applied to and was accepted at Evergreen. When I saw the course catalog, I told her she was free to attend on her own dime, but that I wouldn’t part with one red cent for an “education” at such a worthless dump.

Oberlin College was pushing same-sex marriage when I was in high school over three decades ago.

(Sigh) With the exception of Texas A&M, this list hasn’t changed since the late sixties. It can be assumed that not a single one of these has ROTC on campus, again Aggies excepted.

I always thought Bennington was a girls’ college where the alumnae were so beautiful that they all went straight to the modeling agencies for their first job.

Brandeis & Oberlin never fail to disappoint. Their founders have been lashed down inside their coffins so they won’t spin.

Even formerly-staunchly conservative Texas A&M University recently hosted a separate “LGBT” graduation ceremony.

Every college and university, no matter how conservative it once was, eventually succumbs. They get their faculty from the same pool as does Columbia, Harvard, Berkeley, etc. These faculty, once ensconced in their new positions, immediately set out to remake the school in the image of 1960s Columbia. They all are Columbia radical wannabes and each fatasizes of being the next Trotsky. Until the taxpayers who foot the bill for these commie mills can get more say in who they hire and how they're run there is noo hope of correction.

The only real hope is when the instructors retire and a new generation comes in.

Gotta include University of California Santa Cruz because they are the folks who made Angela Davis a full professor and granted Huey Newton a PhD.

I had not realized that "academic accreditation" was such a subjective 'discipline' these days!

"The academic program is wholly unstructured." -Sarah Lawrence

"The major-less, requirement-free curriculum almost certainly helps..." - Bennington College

"Hampshire College does not provide majors or grades."

"The taxpayer-funded college has no grades. Instead, professors write narrative evaluations of each student’s work." - Evergreen State College

BTW, it is sad to see San Francisco State University on the list. I guess Language in Thought and Action, that excellent book written by one of their former presidents, S.I. Hayakawa, is banned reading on campus now.

Ex-Sen. Hayakawa Dies; Unpredictable Iconoclast : Professor: Semanticist first caught public's attention with his opposition to student radicals at S.F. State. February 28, 1992 -From a Times Staff Writer

S. I. Hayakawa, the renowned semanticist who defied striking student radicals at San Francisco State University in the late 1960s and subsequently was elected to the U.S. Senate as a Republican, died Thursday. He was 85. Spokesmen at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., said he had been hospitalized with bronchitis, and that he died of a stroke about 1 a.m. He had lived in the nearby town of Mill Valley. "He was invaluable during some very difficult times--a courageous man of integrity and principle," former President Ronald Reagan said in a statement.

At the time he was one of the most popular public figures in the state, a hero to multitudes of Californians outraged by student militants and Vietnam War demonstrators.

Those heroics began Dec. 2, 1968, when Hayakawa, an English professor who had just become acting president of San Francisco State, confronted a howling, jeering mob of striking students.

When he could not make himself heard over a blaring sound truck, Hayakawa leaped to the top of the truck and ripped the wires from the sound system--all recorded on live television.

Ooooh Rah! You were a good man, Professor Hayakawa!

(That's him in the Clark Kent glasses & Tam O'Shanter in the photo below)
